All of these soundtracks contain orchestral music to some extent. Most if not all of them also contain music of other styles and types. I tried to put the best descriptions in the green headers for each file but they may not cover all the styles present. Most scores should be enjoyable if you like one or more.

Please feel free to PM me if any of these links are dead or there is a problem with one of the files. As is always the case with uploading this many files there will be errors, many unintentional. If the album art is wrong, i probably don’t have the correct one. If you DO have the correct album art for something in larger resolution than the ones posted I would greatly appreciate your sharing. If you have music that wasn’t included here please let me know but don’t bother to send me OP/ED singles from various soundtracks.

All the music, regardless of the bitrate sounds good to me and I consider myself somewhat good at detecting a terrible recording. Do not shy away from downloading something just because it says its 192kbps or 128kbps. I wouldn’t even bother posting it if the audio sounded completely terrible. None of these were originally ripped by me. If you uploaded one of these somewhere and think you deserve credit for it please let me know and I will include it. If I forgot then I am sorry because with the internet there is likely going to be some disconnect between the source and whatever you find.

Occasionally when you download from mediafire, the download doesn’t finish properly, causing a file to claim being CORRUPTED. If you have such a problem, please re-download the same thing and see if that fixes your issue before asking for an upload of a specific track. If you try multiple times and still have the same problem please post and I will attempt to resolve the issue.

For this score, Sahashi uses classic ultraman themes by Kunio Miyauchi and Toru Fuyuki as well as a brief quote from Masanobu Higure’s Ultraman Taro. Of course Sahashi also uses his own themes from Ultraman Mebius. I haven’t listened to this yet but as it is Sahashi, I suspect it will be great.

Also, your bitrate descriptions are screwed up for at least some of the albums. You have Element Hunters listed as 160kbps (when it is actually LAME -V0 average bitrate ~224kbps) and Ultra Daikaiju Battle listed as 320kbps (when it is actually also LAME -V0 average bitrate ~224kbps).

Also, Element Hunters was my upload too, just for your records. 😉

[Edit: I have a few I can add to this list, if you don’t mind incorporating more live action movie / TV drama soundtracks. I’ll have a rummage tomorrow. If anybody’s curious about the second season of Ultra Daikaiju Battle (Mega Monster Battle: Never Ending Odyssey) it IS around, but it’s 100% synth, and not very good synth at that. I can fish it out for the sake of completeness, but it’s a bit rubbish.]

Not really, I’m used to uploading at max constantly. Only about 4.2 gigs total 🙂 Plus mediafire is awesome because I can queue up a number of them at once and come back a few hours later and notice they are done 🙂

Great thread, Sirusjr! Sahashi-san is one of the few composers in the animation business committed to an orchestral sound, it’s always great to see him highlighted.

My main beef with him is that he has a tendency to make his tracks too short. I don’t like tracks that barely last over a minute, though I may be spoiled by Yoko Kanno, Taku Iwasaki, Yuki Kajiura, and others in that regard who typically make the tracks longer than 2 minutes.

Hmmm, it turns out Kazuo Nobuta (信田かずお) composed the BGM for the Burn Up Scramble Movie Soundtrack (track info (http://www.shop.kotenha.com/ec-classic/pc/package_details/index.php?package_id=3203111080), plus his name is on the cover). Toshihiko Sahashi (佐橋俊彦) only composed the first track, "ACTION!"…

I bookmarked this thread when you started it, but for some reason haven’t gotten any of these until today. I got Ultraman Gaia OST 1 and Magic Knight Rayearth Part 1. As there are a whole lot of albums in this awesome thread, which ones would you recommend if I liked Magic Knight Rayearth the best out of those two I mentioned, or what would would you recommend in general?

You may want to start with the orchestral gundam albums to absorb some of the main themes then listen to the actual soundtracks and recognize the themes. Of course make sure you grab the second rayearth and the rest of the ultraman stuff on this thread.

I checked it and though he is listed as the composer on several sites it’s actually composed by Michiru Ooshima. Maybe he did the orchestrations or something.

Because you can never have enough Sahashi, here’s a score that’s never been shared online to my knowledge. Swan No Baka is a live action romantic comedy originally broadcast on Fuji TV. The title is a pun on the name of the protagonist (Daisuke Suwano) and also a reference to the way he compares his life to that of a swan; gliding elegantly on the water, but struggling desperately under it. Likewise, Daisuke is a popular, cool, and generous guy but under the easy-going exterior lies a man under pressure, counting his pennies until payday.

Sahashi’s score is a mostly light-hearted affair for orchestra – brimming over with cheerful melody (including a wonderful "dream" theme that recalls Gershwin!) and sincere romance. There’s a little of Sahashi’s typical action style to be had, but for the most part there’s a certain carefree elegance in this score that sets it apart from the rest. This is one of those lazy summer afternoon scores, to play whilst relaxing in the warm sunshine. It’s music that should bring a contented smile to your face.

So I realized that, unlike tangotreats, I have no appreciation for the non-orchestral synthesized music composed by Sahashi-San. As such I thought I would make it easier for myself and many orchestral fans out there who think similarly and make orchestral packs for each soundtrack posted here that includes all tracks played by live instruments without any synth. This of course will include some Jazz tracks but it is not so much the style of music but the actual instrument used that gets on my nerves. This may take me a long time and I may also never finish but I’ll see how far I get.

There’s a song by Toshihiko Sahashi in Gundam Seed that isn’t on the soundtrack- it’s in Episode 11 "the Awakening Blade" when Kira hits SEED mode for the first time. Does anybody have this? Or is it on another one of T.S’ OSTs?
I don’t remember the BGM offhand, so I can’t say for sure, but…. If it’s anywhere, then it’s probably on one of the Gundam Seed Suit CDs – those all contained character songs, a drama track, and at least one piece of background from Sahashi. Wisdom says it should be there, because I doubt there were any BGMs of merit composed for SEED left untouched – since SEED OST 4 was first released alongside the first Destiny OST.

I don’t have the drama tracks, and I don’t think I have all the character songs… But I could definitely at least throw all of the Sahashi BGMs from the Suit CDs into a zip and upload it if wanted.

Nope, it’s still not there. I always found it strange that pretty much all of the songs and countless variations of the same song were included on the OSTs and suites but that one track wasn’t. That was why I thought he might have borrowed it from himself or something.

Wow, really? I wish I remember what it sounded like, don’t have the original series handy and don’t think there’s a clip of it on youtube.

Since it’s not anywhere else… It’s likely stock music. What you mentioned could also be possible – I know Sahashi also did the music for Gear Fighter Dendoh, the previous series from SEED’s director, and also released by Sunrise, so the rights were probably also lined up to pluck something out of there for reference or whatever.

The goal of this is to translate all 8 Gundam SEED/SEED Destiny OSTs and give them English tracklists at long last. Next to some of these tracks are "notes" which will either pertain to the track or to the translation. Keep in mind this is an amateuristic effort so there not just may, but WILL be mistakes. Thanks for this – for the translations, and for the insights into the scores themselves – Sahashi is a clever old sod, and I don’t think many people give him enough credit for that. 🙂

Sahashi really needs to do another Gundam score, and an expensive one. Imagine if he got the LSO for an actual series session. Stranger things have happened. (Like Sahashi recording two albums with the LSO in the first place…) 😉

Well, Sahashi’s technically recorded three albums with the LSO if you count the album he made for the 30th anniversary. 🙂

I think Bandai wants to keep relations with the LSO strong so they can use the LSO for something big someday. I have a feeling that if the SEED theatrical movie finally gets off the ground, the LSO, instead of the Sound Inn session musicians, will be providing the BGM. They wouldn’t keep having Sahashi go to London, especially so long after SEED Destiny ended, unless they’re preparing for something huge like that.

It’s really weird to consider that a franchise as big as Gundam has only had two symphonic performances in the BGM: Turn A Gundam had Warsaw Philharmonic behind half the score (the rest were with Japanese session musicians who are talented in their own right), and the 08th MS Team had an orchestra behind it too, but I don’t know for sure which orchestra it was.

Do you also have his score for "Wonderful Life" by any chance? I have ordered it but CDJapan has informed me that they cannot ship it due to an unforeseen shortage of supplies. A shame because I really wanted to hear that one.Nope, I don’t have that one. I’ve search for this before, but always leading me to dead ends being swamped instead by the Korean "Wonderful Life" soundtrack. AFAIK you can listen to the samples of this album on Sony Music’s website. 😀

I just wanna say that

BURN-UP SCRAMBLE Original Motion Picture Soundtrack IS NOT TOSHIHIKO SAHASHI
Tracks 1 and 41 are the only ones by Toshihiko Sahashi.

We were lead to mistake by the dumb ass who ripped and tagged the soundtracksd as being all Toshihiko Sahashi.
I received recently my cd of BURN-UP’LE∞ SCRAMBLE TALK and MUSIC EDITION (http://vgmdb.net/album/34523). It has 3 more tracks not released in the actual soundtrack. And the booklet states very specifically that the music is composed and arranged by Kazuo Nobuta (http://vgmdb.net/artist/11033)

After seing this I did a search on japanese websites and come up with real info for the soundtrack, as you can see it here (http://vgmdb.net/album/34522)

So, I don’t think Burn Up Scramble Should be here if it is not ALL Toshihiko Sahashi, or at least having bit of info regarding that he only composes and arranges track 1 and 41.

Im just giving info and opinion about this Sirusjr,so don’t get mad at me :p

I’m also unclear as to what the Ultraman Symphony is doing here, since Sahashi wasn’t involved in any capacity whatsoever; neither arranger nor composer. 😉

Well you guys can give me suggestions all you want but that doesn’t make me change the info. Most of the time I go by what I find he composed on animenewsnetwork and go from there. The lack of good info online about most of these is behind most of the mistakes.

I dont know how to say this but… 3 years listening Gundam soundtracks and i thought Watanabe was the composer!! And i think i took that info from ANN. Dont know for sure though.

Well, that picture could’ve been cobbled together by any-old-body… I dunno, there’s just something about the guy with the enormous eyebrows, beard, moustache, and bandana that makes me think it’s NOT the bleached-blond, clean shaven, sharply-dressed Hirano… Who knows? Maybe he had a change of image. I’d have his babies either way. If that were possible. 😛

Incidentally, Mr Salat… The postman came again today so now I have two copies of a certain something. The first one is in great condition, but the second one is flawless. Watch out for a PM shortly… 🙂

This is a picture captured from the most recent annual music show NHK Uta Gassen. She sure does look different in that sig…
On a vaguely relevant note, she was the only composer invited as a judge (the show is very prestigious). Kind of baffles me that she is the only composer to have that much of a recognition when there are many more capable composers in Japan.

Here’s another one you’ve probably never heard of, and probably never would hear of, if it weren’t for your good friend Tangotreats… who sits through hours and hours of J-Drama, and spends evening after evening slowly reading obscure Japanese websites, painstakingly transcribing Kanji into the online Romaji dictionary, just to find out where to find the good music. 😉

Shikaotoko Aoniyoshi ("The Fantastic Deer-Man") is a 2008 drama originally broadcast on Fuji TV. Stolen synopsis from the DramaWiki:

"Forced out of his research group after conflicts with his colleagues, Ogawa Takanobu takes up an offer to teach at a girls’ high school in Nara. When taking roll call on the first day one of his students, Hotta Ito, sneaks into class late, claiming a bogus excuse–that she got a ticket after trying to park her deer in front of the train station. He makes immediate enemies with Hotta when he tells his superiors about her tardiness and attitude. In the following days, he begins to notice something unusual about Hotta, but he can’t seem to put his finger on it.

With an odd group of colleagues who live together with him, Ogawa slowly accustoms to life in slow-paced Nara, where there seem to be as many deer as people. Walking through Nara Park one day, he begins to befriend the local deer population, feeding them rice wafers. After being confronted by a talking deer who commandeers him to prevent the destruction of Japan, he fails in his first mission and the talking deer exacts punishment–looking into the mirror the next day, he discovers he has turned into a deer from the shoulders up. Ogawa slowly begins to piece the puzzle together: the talking deer, the mysterious student, and a recent series of earthquakes that could spell doom for Japan… "

Sahashi provided a wonderful robust orchestral score – most of which wouldn’t be out of place in Gundam Seed. If you like Sahashi in his upbeat, fully orchestral, optimistic melody mode, you’ll certainly appreciate this. Swan No Baka was lazy and beautiful; Shikaotoko is brassy and lyrical. The third track (http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/kXoelNKn7kQ/) is something of standout; in the show, it is played in full at the after the main titles of the first episode (I love Japan – a 2008 television drama opens with a four minute orchestral overture) and underscores a sort-of montage sequence of the simplest kind – a man misses his bus and faces a catalogue of disasters (traffic jams, demonstrations, pouring rain, missed trains, etc, etc) on his way to work. It’s a wonderful little piece and Sahashi rolls out the whole orchestra – rolling timpani, trilling woodwind, strident brass, clashing timpani – in one of his best themes yet.

The album is somewhat bizzare in its sequencing, pretty much lumping all the strident, cheerful music at the beginning, and the more suspenseful cues at the end. If I’d been doing the sequencing, I’d probably have mixed it up a little bit – but that’s what the randomise button is for, hey?

The hugely popular franchise "Lord of Lords Ryu Knight" involved the release of many CDs, including vocals collections, radio dramas, and karaoke. To my knowledge there were only 5 CDs of score, representing the TV series, the direct-to-video series, and a special TV episode. The music is primarily by Toshihiko Sahashi, Michiru Oshima, Junichi Kanezaki, Keiichi Oku and Takashi Kudou.
