Symphonic Metal (any fans)?

Hey guy’s, this is my first thread=) and i was wondering if anyone of you like Symphonic Metal/or Power Metal?

As for me i am:P on my iPod Touch you will find only metal music and also Film Score Music;).

You Should Double Check…

"Therion" : Best Symphonic Metal Band Ever to me. I recommend "Theli" & "Vovin" Albums from their Discography

"Haggard": Other one that deserves to be named. "And thou shalt trust…the seer" is a must have album.

"Thy Majestie": If you liked Rhapsody, you’ll definetely like Thy Majestie, they’re Symphonic & Progressive their songs. "Hastings 1066" is a great album.

For purely female vocals, not so symphonic band, but worth to listen "Edenbridge" & "After Forever".

Just to say, all of the bands that you named have Power Metal elements, since is the more easy genre to add symphonic bombastic elements.
Therion combines a lot of styles which is why I have them in my own monolith & Haggard have too much classical/medieval Music with some elements of Death Metal, Thy Majestie is power metal but without the regular drums that we listen a lot in many bands of this genre.

Btw, Rhapsody Of Fire will release there newest album called: Tears Of The Frozen Angels in March 2010:D:D im so getting that and im fan of them since like 2000=)

Bal Sagoth have a huge story entwined throughout their album. I have spoken with Lord Byron HIMSELF on this many times 😀

It depends on what you deem symphonic metal. Of course, numerous metal bands label themselves "symphonic," only to belt out the same veritable ear-bleed akin to bands such as Hatebreed. So what I’m really asking would be, then, where do you draw the line? A harder type of metal with symphonic elements, or something more like say, Nightwish?

I listen to power Metal but mainly Nightwish, Dragonforce, and Freedom Call.

I’m a Dragonforce fan, but their new music hasn’t really captured me as of late.

Sometimes the instrumental versions of these songs sounds like from certain video games I like. I can sometimes imagine Castlevania remixes as part of this genre.

Yeah, I was about to suggest DragonForce as well. Haven’t heard their really new stuff though, so I can’t say if you like it or not. I’m listening to the album Sonic Firestorm now, and I love it, so it can’t hurt to give it a go! Not a lot of people like DragonForce, but if you like symphonic metal, then you should love them 🙂

dimmu borgir is more like doom/black/death, far from anything symphonic.
some likely bands would be edenbridge (heavy metal), within temptation (gothic), lunatica (symphonic) [their latest album deviates from their improved quality and totally trashes them into a poppy commercial corner,sucks,hate to c them fall], kerion (power), cloudscape (has psychedelic influence), virus iv (thrashy progressive)

nice to see symphoic fans here,also try does ne1 lyk cinematic scores for movies ? i try to listen to more creative european music rather than commercial catchy mainstream american music, i in europe they r more about passion n less abt money, try experimenting with every genre till u have found the right track of tunes that seems to rhythmatically match with ur brainwaves, symphonic gothic is the way to go for me, i sort of drink them with my ears =P, hate everything death/doom/black, but dumass children of bodoms music is irresistable, i wish i cud understand the vocal.

Sonata Arctica and Edguy definitely need a mention in here; great bands.

I’ve heard (and love) most of these bands, but I’ll for sure check out the bands I hadn’t heard of.

I think Therion definitely takes the cake when it comes to symphonic bands. Rhapsody are a bit too cheesy for me to bear.

I’m not a big power metal fan, but of what hasn’t been mentioned yet I’ve always enjoyed Elvenking’s album "Wyrd". (Their newer ones haven’t impressed me.)

Hollenthon’s 2008 release "Opus Magnum" got massive praise as one of the best symphonic metal albums available when it came out. It’s been sitting unlistened to in my mp3 folder for two years now and I can’t put it on where I’m at right now, but based on the people who’ve talked it up I’ll pass along the recommendation.

Dimmu Borgir have been a pretty standard black metal band for the bulk of their existence, though I can’t speak for the last two albums. Death Cult Armageddon definitely had some major symphonic elements.

AMAZING JUST AMAZING, I WAS ALREADY A FAN OF THIS BAND WHEN I WAS 5 YEARS OLD, SO FOR ME THIS WAS ONE OF THE BEST EXPERIENCES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!
