How to create WAV files with Winamp
1. Start "Winamp"
2. Open the "Preferences" dialog (press Ctrl-P)
3. On the left, select "Plug-ins/Output"
4. On the right, select "Nullsoft Disk Writer plug-in"
5. Click on "Configure" to choose a folder where you want to store the WAV file(s)
6. Click on "Close" to close the Preferences
Now play your SPC’s. Instead of hearing the music, the sound will be saved as a WAV file.
Instead "Nullsoft Disk Writer plug-in" you can also use other output plugins offering direct conversion to MP3 ("Nullsoft MP3 Output plug-in") etc. Just look into Winamp’s plugin archive for the corresponding plugins.
After you’re done, make sure you change the output back to the "Nullsoft waveOut plug-in" or "Nullsoft DirectSound plug-in".
To do this you’ll obviously need winamp (http://www.winamp.com/player), but also the plugin snesamp (http://www.alpha-ii.com/Download/Main.html#SNESAmp). Alternatively, I believe there’s an SPC plugin for foobar (http://www.foobar2000.org), which might make it easier to convert straight to mp3. As it is, I use the above method and then foobar for wav to mp3.
Hope that helps.
Hey, that rhymed.
After you do it a couple of times, it should only take like 5 minutes from clicking the link to download the spc files to having an mp3 set of them.
Let me know if it doesn’t work for you. You can also do it this way with any other file foobar will open, like FLAC, for instance, or NES (.nsf), genesis (.vgm, .vgz), gameboy, etc. You can do this with playstation music files as well, but you need the foo_psf (http://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_psf) plugin to do it.
You can find lots and lots of emulated music files from the older systems (i.e. before PS3, XBOX360, etc) at:
Zophar’s Domain Music (http://www.zophar.net/music.html)
vgm.hcs64 VGM archive (http://vgm.hcs64.com/)
Project 2612(genesis/megadrive) (http://project2612.org/list.php)
Or, alternatively, you could use my own little custom google search (http://www.google.com/cse/home?cx=005506110847696921220:yp9c31poyds) that has those sites and GH as well as this forum on it. I’ve found this works much better than the built-in search function in the forum.
*edit–Lens, I use winamp sometimes for .vgz’s that foobar won’t read, but I don’t like to use it because the mp3 out plugin converts to mp3 just fine, but drops all the tags. I could be doing it a stupid way, though.
