Overrated/Underrated Black Mages Songs

Some songs on their albums get too much attention or aren’t much liked. Which ones do you think are great despite the animosity/lack of interest or are poor despite the generally positive opinion?

I’m gonna vote for The Skies Above. The music itself is good and the singing/lyrics are nice as well.

Overrated….not sure. Probably J-E-N-O-V-A. i don’t much care for it at all.

I seem to like the songs that I like from Final Fantasy (Decisive Battle, Zeromus, most FF7 songs). I don’t like the remix for the FF4 Elemental Battle though. :/ Just kept starting and stopping and starting and stopping. And there were other songs were it was difficult to add heavy rock to it.

I guess I could go with "Skies Above"… theme of Zarkangard then lyrics.

Skies Above is definitely the worst of the lot. I mean, what the hell was Uematsu thinking when he came up with that? Goddess it makes my ears bleed this is so awful, especially those atrocious lyrics. Horrible. 🙁

The version of Hunter’s Chance from FFIX was also a big let down – there was too much guitar grinding and not enough tempo in it, considering this was one of my favourite FFIX pieces, I just felt it wasn’t the BM arrangement the piece deserved.

As for underrated pieces that are very good, my favourite in that category would probably be The Extreme from FFVIII. This just rocks so incredibly hard, with the tolling bells at the start replacing the distorted choir of the original signaling what is to come. And the band well and truly delivers. Good stuff. 🙂
