Anyways, it’s called ‘Fatal Frame’ in the US of A, and…YES…it’s freaking GREAT.
I’d suggest getting the 2nd game, it’s better in every way than the first (though the first game is pretty good too).
I’d say FF2 is (nearly) as good (in its own way) as SH2.

I should probably play Fatal Frame some day.
I should probably play Fatal Frame some day.
O bite my shinny metal…wife killer.
I mean…erm…um.
But, seriously, I’m a huge SH2 fan myself…still regard it as the best in the series and one (if not the) best survival/horror games made.
However, the Fatal Frame series in its own deeply Japanese way does the same things as Silent Hill does…but some of the scares are better.
To give an example:
When I walked into the first house & after finding the camera (your ‘weapon’),
I was kind of unimpressed…
Sure, hearing wind blow around you and having the lights flicker was cool and all…but…it’s been done.
It wasn’t until I kept hearing this disembodied voice that I started to feel the creepiness.
At first I took some random pictures. Wanted to try out my new toy, but there was nothing.
A few minutes later I took what looked to be some dust or smoke…but there was no fire there.
A few seconds later something REACHED from nowhere, to grab me.
And I mean…I had no bloody clue where the hell ‘it’ came from to attack me.
…I paused the fucking game…
After catching my breath the spirit was still after me and some message pops up saying to the effect ‘hey, retard…remember that camera you got there? Yeah, USE IT!’
After ‘defeating’ the first spirit/ghost I was sucked in…
Fatal Frame 2 is the perfect game to play in the dark with the headphones on.

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE SH2…but, its more for the story and the ‘you’re always alone, but not’ style of it.
You have a weapon, but you learn to avoid combat in SH2…and most of the time you can.
In FF2, you run into combat situations for some reason or another, or you think you’ve avoided on thing only to windup with something else getting after you.
