Genesis Soundtracks (VGZ Format)

This rar contains all the most popular and best sounding Genesis soundtracks. The music is in vgz format. It’s ripped straight from the game cart itself. If there’s any soundtracks I’ve forgotten, you can download it from project2612.org. The site pretty much has almost every Genesis soundtrack.

How to play these files? You can download the plugin from the site for your favorite player. However, I DON’T recommend this. The Genesis soundchip is the hardest to produce accurately. However, inside the rar contains the only player that plays Genesis music 100% accurately.

It’s called VGM_Play v2.00. It relies on a Genesis emulator to play. Fusion is the best Emulator to use, and it’s already included inside the rar in the VGM_Play folder. Just pick the track and play it.

Hang on. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the .vgz format for Master System (8-bit) music, not Genesis/Mega Drive? I’m pretty sure Genesis has it’s own music emulation format (.gym), which requires a different plugin to play.

Of course if .vgz work with 16-bit music then completely disregard this post. :p

EDIT: Just checked my emulated music folders and my Master System music is indeed in .vgz, but my Mega Drive/Genesis OSTs are in .gym. So there you go. 😉

vgz are compressed vgm. gym format is now obsolete. See the project2612 webpage.
