how did he get the buster sword and his other sword to stay on his back?

How did they manage to pick up stuff with their cubic hands?

Looking at my old Cloud figurine (the old one made circa 1997 by Bandai which is now a collector’s item), there’s a funny looking circular object strapped to the centre of his back. To me it looks like a large magnet which possibly explains how such a heavy sword manages to stick to his back without any effort. In Crisis Core other SOLDIER members like Zack and Angeal also seem to have this magnet on their backs to hold their weapons in place.

That would also mean his swords would all have to contain a large amount of iron in them in order to do that of course (even seemingly exotic ones like the Ultima Weapon), but then, this is a fantasy game – the laws of physics need not apply.

And incidentally, it appears that Zack’s starting weapon was actually the Enhanced Sword, a weapon that Cloud actually gets later in the original game – the appearance is pretty much the same. But I digress…
