Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War – "Zero" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKDzOnRydWk)
-This one has it all – some parts are fast-paced, others are slow and more (dare I say it, due to the other thread?) epic-sounding, with choral elements that pretty much necessitate any battle that it would accompany to be in slow motion. I’ve never played the game itself, but this song alone is enough to pique my interest.

-This one may verge on being too "loud" for some people, but I find it much to my liking.

-Normally I’m not a big fan of the electronic sound… but this one does it right. Only really fits if the thing being fought is robotic.

-This one just screams "awesome".

-Not really a battle theme in context… but it damn well should have been.

-A very fitting title. You can totally see armies mauling each other to this.

-The obligatory SotC track.

-An oldie, but goodie.

-More good "one-on-one" tracks.

-Neclord’s theme just works for me… almost Castlevania-ish in style, and duly so… stupid vampires.

Mad Luka is a toughie… kind of difficult to listen to, since it’s really all over the place in terms of speed and rhythm. It sounds chaotic, disjointed, and insane – a perfect fit for the moment, if you’ve played the game.

Suikoden 2 – Battlefield Without Light
This is another track that, as Domingo says of others, may be too loud, but it would SO fit an epic army march(like the situations it’s used in).

Zone of the Enders 2 – Final Battle
Perfect music match to the climactic fight, thought it started off a bit weird to me.

Tech Romancer – Last Match(Boss Stage)
One of the best boss match themes I’ve heard in a fighting game.

Valis – Last Battle
A VERY nice track.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – The Last Confrontation
Fits perfectly into the Star Wars scenario, especially for a battle against a Sith Lord.

Even though the game sucked, I’m gonna have to give props to FFVIII’s "Force Your Way," and "Man with the Machine Gun". The only reason to have played VIII was for the music.

Einhander’s "Street" is a pretty awesome track.

Final Fantasy IX’s "Battle" is a nice place to start. As is "Dark Messenger". Both are pretty awesome in their own right.

Parasite Eve’s "Arise Within You" is kind of awesome. I always thought it was underrated. Eh. It’s just me, I think.

Metal Gear Solid’s "Encounter" should probably get a mention here too.

Double Dragon II: The Revenge’s "Final Confrontation" is just pure excellence.

I still can’t get over Final Fantasy XII’s "Boss Battle" and FFIV had a particularly cool boss battle theme. Most of the FF Tactics soundtrack counts as well. And I know I’ve read a lot of people say they don’t like it (which I simply cannot understand), but I love "Gale" from Chrono Cross.

I should stop before I look too much like your typical Final Fantasy/Mitsuda fanboy.

I’d probably say Adon’s theme from Street Fighter Alpha 2 along with Zarak’s theme from "Weapon Lord" Super Nintendo version and last but not least Golden Axe 2 "The Castle" which is like a tune for the preperation for the final battle. I don’t know how many of you like the Shining Force Music, but it will always be in my top 5. I just love the end of the loop around 1:35 with the triplets in octaves in the trumpets (just like Mars from The Planets (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0bcRCCg01I)–soooo many people rip parts of this off its not even funny) and the end of the melody in thirds right before that. Actually, the triplets throughout the whole thing make it cool I think.

Anyway, I love this piece. To use a really worn out word, it’s just super epic. I like the trade-off between strings and brass in the softer section, but I have a question. I don’t know if anyone listens to the retrocore music podcast, but in one of the episodes he plays this song, but it has all sorts of dynamic changes in the call and response section I just mentioned that doesn’t seem to be the version from the OST. Is this just some special version he doctored up, or does someone have that version, or am I just crazy?

I always loved the battle theme from Metal Gear Solid. All the other ones from the next metal gear games are great too.

I like the theme of Medievil 2’s first boss too, and most of the boss themes from the Crash Bandicoot series.

Some of my favourite battle themes from FFXI (yes I know the battle music in that game can get grating at times, but there are still some awesome battle music in it):

Awakening (Shadowlord battle theme)
Fighters of the Crystal (the Ark Angels battle theme in Rise of the Zilart)
Mercenaries Delight (the regular field battle theme in Treasures of Aht Urhgan)
Fated Strife ~ Besieged (as it says, it’s the ‘Besieged’ battle theme in Treasures of Aht Urhgan – this was formerly the background track that played on the ToAU teaser page on the FFXI website)
Clash of the Battle Drums ~ Campaign (again, self explanatory, this is the Campaign battle theme in Wings of the Goddess)

As far as I’m aware, all those tracks were composed by Naoshi Mizuta.

(even though it appears to be an arrangement, it is actually a part of the Raidou Kuzunoha Vs. King Abaddon OST, playing during special boss-fights)

EDIT: ..but oh well, you did mention it as catchiest MAIN battle theme, and it is quite possible it is among the top 10 among general gamer-preference. My bad.
