Wow I guess I haven’t listened to Edward Scissorhands enough to recognize immediately that this stole from it. That is really too bad.
Another problem is this is a composer promo so it is possible that it was never authentic lossless to begin with. I do like Murphy’s use of synthesizers in general on other soundtracks.
Bearing in mind:
a) The director temped the movie with Edward Scissorhands.
b) He explicitly wanted Danny Elfman to score it in the style of Edward, but couldn’t hire him because of lack of budget.
Surely this says a lot about Murphy; what did he turn out? A very, very cheap sounding, barely-disguised ripoff.
Personally, I’d have absolutely RELISHED the rare opportunity to score a film in the style of Edward Scissorhands; I certainly wouldn’t have copied it outright. I doubt whether Danny Boyle said "Copy Edward but change it enough so we don’t get sued."
I imagine he said "I really liked Edward Scissorhands, so I’d like this score to be very reminiscent of late eighties / early nineties Danny Elfman. Can you do something like that?"
What he got was definitely for former… A great shame.
