I agree, the Jazz album is amazing. Especially all versions of ‘Godot ~ The Fragrance of Dark-Colored Coffee’ – Great upload. Definitely on my Must Buy list now.

FLAC stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec. Lossless means just that: the audio files are compressed in a way that saves file space compared to the WAV format, but does not sacrifice audio quality in the process. MP3 files are examples of lossy compression, where audio quality is being sacrificed in the name of creating a smaller music file.

MP3 compression has advanced to the point where you generally won’t be able to tell an MP3 file from a FLAC file without sufficiently high quality sound equipment. Most people use iPod earbuds, laptop speakers, or something else equally horrendous, so those persons would see no gain from listening to a FLAC file over an MP3 file. But if you have even a halfway decent sound setup, then pursuing FLAC becomes worth the effort.
