Good RPGs?

Ok so basically the only RPG’s I have played are Final Fantasy games..now that they’re getting a bit repetitive I was wondering which were the best RPG’s for PS2 that I could buy and try.

Wow, you have been deprived.:) As a heads up, some of the entries in the series I’m about to suggest are on the PS1 as well as PS2.

Grandia series
Star Ocean series
‘Tales of’ series(Tales of Destiny, Tales of Abyss, etc)
Growlanser series
Suikoden series

There’s plenty more, but those are the most popular RPG series.

I heavily recommend the first two Suikodens, even if they’re PS1.

Star Ocean series, Lunar Series, you need to go to back the SNES if all you’ve played is Final Fantasy young man

Shadow hearts games (Shadow hearts 2 covenant is one of my fav games)
Shin megami tensei series – Persona 3/4 Digital devil saga 1 and 2. All of them games are awsome.

Also any of these, .hack series, Xenosaga series, Tales of the abyss, Tales of Legendia, Grandia 2 and the kingdom hearts games if you havent played them…

Definately check out the shadows hearts games tho.. So underated..

Suikoden series

I heavily recommend the first two Suikodens, even if they’re PS1.

I must give a nod to these nominations. The Suikoden series is simply delightful. If you ever have the opportunity to purchase any of the series, especially the first two, you won’t go wrong buying them.

Yeah, I don’t like to say four explicitly because I still don’t appreciate how they didn’t release Suikoden 3 in England. ='[

Yes, you’re right if you dont count the ps1 games. But I bet they are hard/expensive to find. Not saying they’re not worth the effort but.. -_- rather Bash some digital devil saga myself 🙂

I tried Suikoden V and it wasnt that bad, but i didnt find it that good either. I’ve also heard 3 is meant to be one of the best in the series…

Sarah had a really original idea for an RPG about 2 years ago (thread was deleted/merged iirc) about a singing Fedora that was a detective.

PS2 actually had a fantastic RPG Library.

Grandia II – Didn’t have quite the "Adventurous" feel as the first game, but had a more in-your-face storyline, with some cool music, and interesting characters.

.hack//Quarantine – Awesome music, good characters, pretty great storyline. unfortunately, the games tend to become a little repetetive, since you’re basically running through the same 5 dungeons, arranged a little differently. Other than that, these are pretty good pick-ups, and come early in the .hack// timeline, which includes…

.hack//G.U. – Get this series. This series fixed the problem with the first games, in that combat is actually a ton of fun. The content in-game is actually entertaining, and a lot of fun to try and complete. Good music, great story, and Haseo is a sexy bitch.

Wild ARMS 3 – Fun game, keeps in line with the combonation Old West-JRPG style, more great music, a good storyline, and a lot of fun little puzzles to keep your brain occupied.

Suikoden V – The first REALLY good installment in the series since Suikoden II. They stopped experimenting with stuff, and went back to old school, while adding in a few new small elements. Really great characters (ya think? There’s only 108 of them), really engaging storyline, and it wouldn’t be a suikoden game without the three styles of combat: Team Battle, Map Battle, and Duels.

Xenosaga – One of my favorite series. The music in all three games is beyond description. Beyond that though, the storyline alone is enough to keep your interest. Marvelous series. II can get a little dry at parts, but it’s worth it to see the end of everything in III.

Makai Kingdom – From the makers of Disgaea (which I have yet to play), this is a Tactical RPG. Very fitting and addictive music (Sabat, anyone?), and dialogue that’ll make you chuckle for days. (DISPERSE, LOYAL BATTLE MONKEYS! DO MY BIDDING, AND BUST A CAP!) Must-have.

I’m sure there are so many more that I’m forgetting, but this is all I’ve got for now. Go with the posts in this thread. It’ll at least get you started. You should also start looking into some RPGs from PSX and SNES, if you can play them. Though, a few of the really important ones from SNES were remade for PSX. Still, if you don’t have an SNES, see if you can’t find a ROM.

Damn, You’re definitely missing out. I’ve completed the game yesterday night and i gotta say, it was amazing, worth the import (I chipped my ps2, so what, i have a 60g ps3 now XD), If you’re still relunctant, you could import it with a swap magic incl. Slide Tool

But yeah, it really annoyed me b/c i foolishly asked around every game shop i know for suikoden 3 until i found out it was never released in London, hell the whole of Europe

Go buy xenogears now!! Im telling you, hell any fan of xenogears will tell you, it has the best most complex plot of any video game.

You get to fight in giant robots (gears) and on foot, get apocolyptic powers, and its got a crazy plot that deals with psychosis, split personalities, reincarntion, and heavy religious ideas.

Legaia 2 Dual Saga. Rare title nowadays, but still worth the effort in finding and buying.

Suikoden IV, Tactics and V are good games in their own right and do add into the series as a whole.

The Shadow Hearts series. I quite enjoyed and would recommend the first two with no reservation. The third though felt like a step backwards to me. I don’t know what it was, but I just didn’t like it at all and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone (Same with Breath of Fire V Dragon Quarter).

dragon warrior vii (ps1) and dragon quest viii(ps2) are awesome. the ps1 lunar remakes are great as well.

Grandia for PS, The Persona series(PS/PS2), Arc the Lad series(PS/PS2)exception of the last game they released. Hey, who’s stopping you though). Shadow Hearts(PS2), Kingdom Hearts, Xenogears, Xenosaga(if you want a long story with alot of Sci-fi elements, then enjoy),Star Ocean 2 for the PS(Til the End of Time is a little conflicting), Valkyrie Profile for PS, Alundra for PS, and there’s Ar Tonetica which is a great game with a profound soundtrack. Saga Frontier I and II for PS. I didn’t play the Tales series on PS2, but there’s many who would recommend it. Ys on PS2. Wild Arms 3. Suikoden series(PS and PS2).SMT Nocturne,DDS I and II,Devil Summoner 1 and 2(PS2). Legend of Legaia for PS(Dual Saga for PS2 has the same battle system). Dark Cloud I and II(PS2). Rhapsody(PS),Lunar I and II(PS)

High School Musical 3: Senior Year ,this game is very good .lots of my classmates are playing this game.they are a group likes ps2 and xbox 360 very much ,so they often get together to discuss games ,sometime ,they buy a new game together and then play it together ,i think it is a good way ,on one hand ,you can enjoy the game more ,the other hand ,it can save money.sometime they would go online to search some cheap games on sale ,they said they would much cheaper.
