Best Aquatic Level Themes

Since my last post didn’t work, I’m trying a new one. What’re everyone’s favorite tracks from water levels.

So far I have:
Water Temple – Oot, Underwater from SMB1, Dire Dire Docks – Super Mario 64, Aquatic Ambiance – DK Country.

PLease help with this list and keep in mind some tracks from Snow levels for the next topic

I know the latter 2 are more tropical themes but might work out.

While not nearly as memorable as Aquatic Ambience, DKC3 for the SNES has two interesting themes: "Water World" and "Waterfall."

It’s probably the less "creepy" one of the lot.

That’s a good soundtrack (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFmRSo75-84) on the whole. And also interesting because some of the music for the levels is surprisingly atypical for the game’s genre. Tracks like "Final Frontier," "Welcome," "Short Cuts," "Desert Storm," etc. sound like they could have been on The Dig soundtrack (http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=5863D320C7E51063&search_query=the+dig+soundtrack). But that’s not what you’d expect in a platformer/shmup.

By the way, we were just talking about this on the "What’s Wrong with Video Game Music?" thread found here (Thread 65324), which is why soundtracks that defy expectations are on my mind.

how about the most obvious one, i can’t belive nobodys mentioned the Underwater theme from Super Mario Bros. 1!!! One of my favorites, and it was also in Super Mario Galaxy, oh does the Beach Bowl Galaxy theme count???:) EDIT: I see the SMB underwater theme, guess i’m a little late to the party, eh?!

I had only heard the Ragnarok Online 2 soundtrack, so I checked this out. As far as I saw, only a remix was available on YouTube, found here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y76lJhoKBd8).

P.S. Since I started with the second Ragnarok soundtrack, I was surprised to see that Yoko Kanno did not compose the first one. Ragnarok 1 was done primarily by a group of people called SoundTeMP.

They had some exceptionally well composed tracks in the first RO, aside some filler tracks (as with all big games I suppose).

The best part of the song begins at roughly 44 seconds into it IMO.

Anyways, for the sake of the project they’re working on, they didn’t want the remixes to sound too different. In fact, they were going more so for remastered music as oppose to remixed music. So in that sense, it’s my fault for initially labeling those tracks as "remixes" in the first place.

Agreed. I’m just listening to that soundtrack now. I tend to set aside Genesis music if there’s something else I want to listen to, but so far I’m digging this. "Break Silence" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPvX7zwLu6w) is also a good piece.

Agreed, although I think DKC 1 (http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=C89277209CD95721&search_query=donkey+kong+country+soundtrack) is the best of those soundtracks, with only a few memorable songs from 2 (http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=64F279643E43363C&search_query=donkey+kong+country+soundtrack). I seem to be in the minority about that, though.

Does anybody remember a game called AQUA? it was meant to release on PSN and as far as i remember the trailer they showed had a very ambient song playing in the background with a womens voice on top. ive been looking for that song since i saw the trailer (note ages ago!) and still havnt found out anything about it.

The water level music from Jazz Jackrabbit 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JanYueeb6Vk) is a soothing remix of the Metroid theme.
(Hilariously enough in beta versions of the game the stage is called Generic Water Level)

Speaking on water level music, I’ve been on a recent Turbografx 16 kick and I have been playing quite a few titles I haven’t played before. I was playing Air Zonk, and thought the music for the water level was pretty unique. Air Zonk has an amazingly fun soundtrack to it, and does a great job at enhancing the gameplay experience.

Starts pretty subdued, unlike most of the soundtrack, but works itself into a frenzy. Very interesting for a water level song, in my opinion.

If anyone’s interested, we just started an aquatic level themes battle in the video game music rumble (Thread 66118) based on suggestions from this thread. All are welcome to participate. There are also a lot of links to songs recommended in this thread.

I want to add here that DM Ashura did a great cover of Hydrocity Zone.

Just went back and listened to Water World for DKC 3 and it is nice. 🙂 But I’d have to say that Aquatic Ambience for DKC 1 is awesome. And I like the music for the Aquatic Ruin Zone from Sonic 2.
