Is YouTube a Goner?

During the past year, YouTube have slowly been taken over by greedy people who are only looking out for themselves. With CD sales being down, the companies are prowling the Tube for everything they own the Copyrights to. I guess I cannot blame them, but by doing this, it will only piss off the consumers even more. YouTube have been a great way to get acquainted with vintage video music performances that are not available anywhere else, so I think it is a shame that a lot og young’uns are now being robbed of the opportunity to discover a time when music meant something.

What do you think about YouTube these days?

It’s really a shame. I don’t think though, that vintage VG music is going to be taken off Youtube, because a lot of those songs aren’t sold in stores anyways and are ripped by other people. They would only take music off that would put their opportunity to make money in jeopardy. Youtube is good, but I wish that it had it’s own section for HD videos. This is why I prefer Vimeo HD to Youtube – better user made material and it has a great HD interface. Also, there’s a lot of spam on youtube. However there are some great youtube users, that I’m subscribed to: Angry Video Game Nerd, ZoopSoul and others.

The thing about a lot of vintage music is that they remove the audio, and leave the footage, as they don’t own that part. Most vintage videos are live performances, so they only disable the audio, and leave the footage. It’s so stupid. A lot of vintage clips that have been up for over a year, have had their audio removed because of that, and all you’re left with is a video with no sound.

Wow, Youtube’s really cracking down on music usage. My brother had a video up for about a year and a half, and just was messaged that the video is unaccessable because it has a certain song. 🙁

Yeah, that’s true, although that’s not a leading factor in why I don’t like as much anymore. It’s become ruled by companies – EA (monitors what videos of their games are put online). Various record companies also look for movies posted with their music. It really takes the YOU out of YouTube…

They haven’t ravaged through my collection of Grace Jones videos, yet, except for a couple of videos that they insist that they have the right to put their ads in, which is fine. But, I am really worried about my channel. My channel was featured in an article in Milk Magazine last year for all of the promotion Grace’s received through my videos, so I am worried about those rascals lurking about.

Wow, you must have a really popular channel then. Yeah they probably are looking through your channel if you have so many users looking at it.

My channel is a slow-burner, with only about 17,000 views and 500 subscribers, but man, what a loyal following. xD

Good for you, would you consider hosting your videos on some other site if they are removed from YouTube?

I have a couple on Myspace TV that I uploaded about the same time I uploaded the videos onto YouTube. But, whereas one of my videos on YouTube have 50,000 views, the same video only have about 500 on Myspace. I need a place with a little more activity than Myspace TV.

Yeah, I’m not much of a fan of Myspace at all. It’s hard to find a good alternative.

Indeed. If they take, say, the Gex music off youtube, I’d do everything I could to ask who made them get rid of it, and from them I’ll find out where I can get the Gex OST (which I’d find hard to believe is found anywhere) and gladly buy it. I’ll be damned if it is.

As for this YouTube shit, the site was originally intended for people to upload original video footage. So yeah, not really caring about the copyright crackdown.

They’re deleting a lot of vids that have over a million views that have to do with music.

I laughed when youtube deleted a 911 news story from the BBC channel which made no sense.

They’ve been tearing into Guitar Hero vids too.

I like YouTube but the whole copyright thing is driving me insane pretty much. One thing that ticks me off is that you can still get the audio disabled even it is only 30 seconds of a song. I had this case when I tried to upload a YouTube Poop with a short clip of Pantera’s Cemetery Gates in it but guess what, I had to redo it since it disabled the video. You would think that only 30 seconds would be fine right? I mean a lot of online stores offer 30 seconds of a song for an audio preview and on some sites users do that but YouTube does not seem to allow it.

Are they doing this to fandubs and video game music? I don’t want my videos to be removed because I sang a song from the Japanese version of an anime dubbed by 4Kids…

I do not think it will disappear for good. Although the Companies are pulling out a huge amount of Song videos from Youtube due to
copyright infrigment, there are still a huge amount of videos online that are still there from 2005, 2006, & 2007. Plus, there are
other Videogame Trailers that can still be announced by this popular Clip organisation.

it sucks man, my YouTube account was closed because the PSCompany told them to remove a video I uploaded of Kagra,… the video was from 1999 when they were an INDIE BAND and had NOTHING to do with the PSCompany, and it was NOT a full video, only a 18 seconds cut, WTF!!!!! there’s no criteria asdasdsafdsklfnsdfdsf

yeah YouTube is starting to suck. I put up videos a year or so ago on there, and two on there recently. I went back to find they had been deleted due to the evil corporation’s idea of copyright. And two videos were from over a year ago!

I hate how they’re pushing the BETA crap through. Sure, it was your choice whether or not you wanted to update your channel’s design, but now… I was/is quite happy with my current channel. 🙁

YouTube plans to soon switch all of its members to a redesign of its channel pages that it has been testing for several months, although many people want the Google video-sharing site to give them the option to keep the old layout.

YouTube members have left 316 pages with tens of thousands of comments, most of them negative, on a recent official blog posting in which Google announced that all channel pages will be switched over to the new design on July 15.

In that announcement, posted on June 24 and titled "New Channels Coming Soon," Google also stated that all new accounts are now being created by default with the new design.

Google believes that the new design will provide in general a better user experience both for YouTube visitors as well as for members, who can upload videos, post information about themselves and aggregate favorite clips on their "channel" pages.

The new design will make it easier for visitors to browse and watch videos, and give members more options to personalize their channels, according to Google.

However, thousands vehemently disagree, judging by the barrage of comments made mostly by members who dislike the new design. In recent comments to the June 24 posting, those opposed to the redesign seem to be planning a YouTube "blackout" from July 10 to July 14, in an attempt to get Google to budge and at least offer an option to remain on the current layout for those who prefer it.

Upset members have also left negative comments aplenty in a YouTube page where Google has posted a video explaining the reasons for the redesign and its main features.

Asked for comment, Google provided via e-mail a statement from YouTube Product Manager Brian Glick, in which he said that the company is sorry that "some folks are upset" but that more than 1 million members have voluntarily opted into the new design already.

"We set out to make the channels more customizable and a better way to engage with the owner and their videos. We reached out to members of the community and created a special blog. That input helped us create the new design and we’re continuing to incorporate people’s feedback," Glick said.

Beta Channels suck. I hate them. Everyone else hates them, But they force us to have it. Damn they don’t listen. I think that the new profile channels are really UGLY and they suck since they don’t display all of your videos and favorites like the current one we have now does. And the beta profile is glitchy, very glitchy. I remember i had it once but i hated it so i reverted it back to the old one

That’s not only happening with YouTube. A lot of online programs and sites are starting to push for new layouts that should "allow for a better user experience" even though it just confuses people. Wtf does uTorrent have to do with YouTube?

I’ve been hit by the copyright complaint a few days ago regarding one of my animutations- the one using Move’s Gamble Rumble. I chose to take it down because 1. The videos lose their lulz if I should replace the soundtrack with Youtube’s licensed song library since like all animutations, the joke come from mondegreening the music, and 2. If I challenge them, I’ll be having lawyers breathing down my neck, which I don’t want. I also took down the other since the second movie is somewhat a sequel to the first.

This WILL be the last time I play any game that uses licensed music from Avex Trax. No more Initial D, no more Dance Dance Revolution or Para Para Paradise or anything out of Konami’s Bemani list that uses their music. Any company who does not understand art are idiots and are not worth patronizing.

Strangely enough tho, they did not lay any claims on either of my DDR videos. If they do tho, I may file a fair use counterclaim. However, all those D-Pad Hero videos weren’t so lucky. Accessing them only got me a "Copyright restricted from your country" error.
