I recently watched the nice little shocker "The Ruins" and despite the bad critics I must say I quite liked it. When I searched for a soundtrack, I quickly found out, that there isn’t one, not even an inofficial. So, well, I made one myself.
A little different procedure as my other soundtracks this time: used an audio montage of the 6 DVD audio channels the whole time and sometimes lowered sound effects manually and rendered the track afterwards. At the end I lifted the sound level by gradually lowering the volume of very loud passages in different tracks, then meta normalizing again (about 10 times all in all). Thus, this soundtrack has the correct volume relation between the tracks AND the ambient tracks aren’t too quiet. =) I’m quite proud of that. 😉 And yes, I used the Unrated Edition for this, which features some more scenes (e.g. Track 07).
However, some of the tracks contain quite many SFX (some scenes played in a cave, where the voice reverb is mixed into the surround channels – nothing I can change :/). I have marked the tracks with unpleasantly many or loud SFX in the below track list to warn you. Of course every track has SFX in it, the marked ones are just the ‘worst cases’. The soundtrack itself is nothing really special but if you’ve seen the movie you’ll remember the scenes with a little unease – hopefully! 😉
