RE4 Mercenaries Thread

Hey what I want to talk about this lovely bonus mode of Resident Evil 4 as I’ve recently gotten back into it. I could spend hours playing through that crap.

Ok so for starters post your high scores

Mine is not that great compared to what others have done:

That’s in the Castle, the best place for racking up a huge ass score. That’s not my highest kill count, but the overall is my best.

I think it’s all about racking up the "combos" and getting huge kill counts when chests are activated, or some such shat.

I hope RE5 will have this 😮

i dont play mercenaries to get scores.
i play to get my daily dosis of senseless violence or else i die.
that and do hunk`s neckbreak ballet.

Ktulu, I still need to start with Mercenaries. I’ll have a go and post my scores soon. Though I won’t waste screenshots on anything that’s really terrible, which I imagine will be the first few tries.

I do want the Handcannon at some point though. So I will need to beat it all the way through. This could be my basis for trying..

I love the handcannon. Especially after I maxed everything out on it. I’m a little disappointed on the "unrealism" of this particular weapon though.

My highest was only something like 65k.

It’s been a while, but I used Krauser, and I can’t remember which stage.

Krauser is so wonderfully broken. He’s my favorite, anyway.

That one is in the merchant’s underground mine near the end of the game. I didn’t find it on my first few playthroughs either, there are a couple of varying paths through there that are hidden pretty well

I totally tried to look all over that place 😡

Oh well, I usually forget as many things in a given runthrough, as I find new things.

Totally found out that you can drop down next to the merchant behind the counter in the cave on the lake. And, forgot to go back for the free Broken B.U.T.T.E.R.F.L.Y.

My Military Base score is lower than the rest because it’s so damn big and my combos are always scattered, I don’t think I’ve ever gotten all the kills in a row on there

Waterworld…I often run into huge sections where no one is around to kill. Same deal with the village.

The base is indeed problematic in that regard. And yet, my last couple 5 star runs came in a row there, pretty quickly. Like in the space of one afternoon. The very last stage I finished was waterworld, w/Leon, iirc.

At least Ada and Wesker can take out the double chainsaw maniacs from the rooftops, and well Krauser is Krauser.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve shot a chainsaw enemy in the face point blank with the magnum only for them to keep coming at me and chop my head off 😮

The times I had to reload with Leon because they narrowly avoided the blast from an explosive barrel :mad::mad::mad:

I started trying these just before Christmas. I needed something to keep me quiet until my PS3 was in my hands.

The best score I got was in the village and it was somewhere in the region of 47,000. But i didn’t get anywhere near as good in the others.

Waterworld was solid. That super chainsaw bloke makes me panic and I fuck it up. Chances of me posting a screenshot are slim to none. I am without a PC now. (jftr this is the first time i have been onto Shrine using a PC since mine kicked the bucket. I keep pressing alt then enter to line break. It’s annoying). But I’ll try to get on it and post my scores. Though I realise my credibility won’t be as strong without a screenshot.

But I have Dead Space so I don’t care what you think.

Like with anything, you just get better with practice.

Managed to bump my base score from 4th to 3rd. Kill count was 94, 8 shy of the total on the stage (so I’ve read.) That’s all I’ve ever maxed at, I don’t know where the crap those other guys are

I’ve thought of filming some of this stuff. The other RE4 videos I have on Youtube get commented on pretty regularly so I guess there’d be interest. Full runs though, not so sure, there are too many other god-like ones that make us all look ridiculous.

BTW yes I checked and RE5 does have a Mercenaries mode. I hope it’s like this one.

From what I read, I don’t think there’s much confirmed about it except for potential for downloadable content and co-op.

I imagine downloadable content could = extra characters

I wish there was an infinite stage without a timer that spawned enemies continuously, violence ahoy

Upped my highest score by 2,830. But it was with Krauser. Don’t be throwing me any parades :p

Krauser’s arm is great but I don’t like using him since otherwise the bow is very slow. His abundance of flash grenades+his kick almost equals it out though.

In general, I only use Wesker or Leon (for a challenge given the BS ammo), and Hunk sometimes for the village – though I’m actually not that good with the neckbreaker, I usually end up with a ton of enemies behind me and I get all screwed up. Before you kill me, Ada is fine, but Wesker pretty much does all the same stuff better aside from getting less incendiary grenades. If it helps, she’d be my second choice for the base or water levels.

BTW – my readings have revealed the North American version of this game is actually harder than the PAL one and on Mercenaries there are less enemey spawns in some cases. A lot of the people with crazy nutty scores are on the PAL one

That seems backwards, usually North America gets the easy versions of games 😮

I’m not opposed to Ada, but she’s probably my least favorite. I usually play Krauser or Leon, the broken and the underdog, as it were.

On the Wii, Krauser is a headshot machine. That it’s with arrows makes it all the lulzier.

Maybe he’s got explosive tip arrows like Rambo!

In First Blood Part 2, at some point this asian dude (that has done Mr. Rambo a great dis-service, not to spoilerrrr too much) is shooting at Rambo from like 50 feet away with a machine gun, and of course not hitting him at all. Rambo pulls out his bow and arrow, slow as hell, puts an exploding tip on it, winds it up, and from that distance – hits the guy in one shot and he blows to pieces. It’s ridiculous…and one of the greatest things ever in a movie.

That sounds pretty ace. Of all the shitty Stallone movies I’ve watched, and absolutely adore, I’ve never really sat down and watched any Rambo 😮

I was playing with a gamecube controller today. I thought I’d be horrible, but I was just fine, except when I tried to snipe with the handcannon.

Only do that on the Wii, if you want to live.

I sniped an archer ganado with the handcannon last time I played the waterworld stage, from half way across it. It was fairly hilarious hearing the scream from so far away. I also noticed they counted it as an instant death. Usually handcannon shots take a second to go through on there – often the reason for a combo ending. Confusing.
