Hey there shriners,

I’ve recently had a piece published on video game music and some of what makes it different from other styles of music. It has a few interesting unique characteristics it’s written to accompany an activity rather than meant to be listened to passively, it is often required to loop and extend indefinitely, and it has the potential to be adaptive and respond to player feedback. But rather than re-state everything for you here, the article itself probably the most organized version of my thoughts:

The Galbadia Hotel has been an excellent resource for me personally when it comes to game music related topics, no matter how obscure, and I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on all this. Thanks.

Well, thanks for reading it!

More on the music theory side of things, I’ve written a piece about the different musical modes in relation to video game music. In addition to the major and minor keys there are five others… and they lend themselves to some interesting musical stylings: http://newheiser.blogspot.com/2008/02/modes-and-video-games-music.html

Hey MarkN, I really liked your analysis on video game music. Not many people write about this stuff, so it’s good to see things like this. =)

I like it. A lot of people get on my case for listening to VGM but now you’ve added more firepower to my arguments.

Yeah really good article. It even told some things I haven’t even noticed.

Well crafted article! nothing like a little quality reading at 3:00 in the morning…It made me think about a few things I haven’t pondered too deeply. It’s interesting how different VGM is from it’s counterpart, and how it compliments (or detracts sometimes) from the main course. Keep up the good work! I too am looking forward to seeing how VGM adapts and changes. Peace.
