Valkyria Chronicles – English OST

Another hype thread for another great RPG, this time around, exclusive to the PS3! Sega just may have gone through a rebirth : after Sonic rehashes after reshashes, flops afte flops, the studio has developed a rare gem of impressive quality.

While not perfect, IGN has given it a 9.0, calling it "one of the richest, most rewarding titles I’ve played in a long while" (US IGN review here (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/925/925395p1.html))

Visuals are cell-shaded, with a storybook "feel" to the general artstyle.

The music composed by the popular Hitoshi Sakimoto, reknowned for his work in Final Fantasy XII.

got a question for you, What is with the title of the thread? this isn’t any different than what I already have right? I have not heard of the soundtrack being changed for the english version of the game, but anyway this is good for those who don’t already have it unlike me; just change the title it is a little confusing

any chance you could split it into parts? it stops downloading once youve downloaded about 110MB and you have to wait about 45 minutes, but then you can only restart the download.

I had an issue with the download as well…I’ll wait for a split version and see if that helps. Maybe someone could try putting it up on MediaFire or Megaupload as an alternative? Hell, even Rapidshit might work. Or Badongo.

Anyway, I’m eager to see how this is…anyone who’s heard it have some general impressions of how good it is?

I have to agree with this, I thought the Final fantasy 12 soundtrack was awful, haven’t heard the Final fantasy tactics soundtrack yet, but he did a great job of the Breath Of Fire Dragon Quarter soundtrack.

And thanks for splitting it up into 100MB parts.

Glad to be of service. I agree the FFXII soundtrack is the least memorable among FF console titles, but due to our expectations of the Final Fantasy franchise, it appears abysmal. Compare it to other jRPGs though, and you’d realize that the soundtrack is quite high-caliber. It’s just that because we see it as a Final Fantasy game, we expect everything to be Nobuo Uematsu’s style and level of expertise.

Many say FFXII is also the weakest among the newer-generation Final Fantasy titles, but once again, we have the habit of comparing it to other Final Fantasies: if we were to separate ourselves from this stigmata, and view this jRPG on its own merits (pretend it isn’t called "Final Fantasy XII", but rather "The Dalmascan Crusade", or something, and you’d realize it is a great jRPG in its own rights).

Does anyone have the track from this game that they play over the game’s opening movie?

They have a track like that on the album, but it has vocals. Its called "Succeeded Wish". I was looking for it without the vocals like in the opening movie. I dont believe this track is on the album itself. Which kind of sucks.

Does anyone have any information about getting that music?

So I was wondering if anybody could find the english version of "Succeeded Wish" sung by Hedy Burress? It definitely has a different feel to the jap version sung by Megumi Toyoguchi. Burress’ rendition seems much more plaintive and powerful.

I would love to hear the English version too, along with the instrumental (non-vocal) version.

I want to know that too. Ah, and to all those who complain about the FF12 OST. I have almost all music of Hitoshi Sakimoto, and I really like them all. He is one of my favourite composers. One thing I like about his style is that it�s really distinctive to him.

Well, one could also say, the music sounds always the same, if he is not so positive about it. But that�s true! He has been using the same samples for over ten years now. From his PS1 games as Vagrant Story to PS2 FF12 to this one now, there are many titles you could interchange almost without noticing.

One Example: the ‘Main theme’ of Valkyria Chronicles is NOT new, you know? Just listen to �Closed Lea Monde� from Vagrant Story, the first half is almost the same. And that is with many titles. Don�t get me wrong; I really, REALLY like his music. But I just can�t understand how people can say �nah, FF12 music is shit, but FF Tactics music is great�.

theres another big song missing. its called something with "love’ in the title. its the english opening. theres also a second version of the song which is the song rosie sings at the funeral. i DLed the soundtrack hoping for just these two songs, but THEY ARENT THERE! 😛

oh well. thinks someone can rip them from the game for me? you can access them on the music tab. like i said, they have the word "Love" in the title. and arent too far down the list

I never knew Hitoshi Sakimoto composed the music though– But I like his style; it’s quite distinct.

Just so you guys know, there is a soundtrack coming out at the end of the month for the sequel to this game on PSP also by Hitoshi Sakimoto. I will post it once I get it, in its own thread of course. Watch for it!
