Anyway, thanks again for the upload!
Definitely best ost of the week !
The orchestra is mixed terribly, for one. They had a small orchestra and it was recorded and mixed in such a way that really highlights that, which is annoying considering the scale of the music and the fact that it wouldn’t have been hard at all to get it sounding "bigger". Especially for a track like "A Tenuous Pact" where the arrangement itself is geared towards an ensemble big enough to carry the sound. The male choir made me cringe just about every time they came in; honestly, I would have just left them out because whoever they are they sound terribly unconvincing — "The Visions of the Lich King" track has some great choral parts, except this performance makes it sound like they were all completely bored. It’s aggravating.
I’m sounding really critical here, but considering how much I love the original versions of all this music, it’s disappointing to me that they couldn’t do a better job with the production values since they’re bothering to make this in the first place.
The orchestra itself plays wonderfully; really a solid performance of the material. It’s just that their mixing makes them sound tiny and hollow. Oh well, it’s still an enjoyable CD set, it just lacks the really impressive quality that would have made it stand out.
Often happens in anime orchestral music too. I have a personal trick to partly fix the problem: I use various filters with Winamp to make it seem like a bigger orchestra: reverb, equalizing, stereo expansion… Once you’re good at doing this, the result can be quite remarkable.
The orchestra sounds great (even considering that it is a rip) but I’m not very happy with the arrangement of the musical themes. I also agree with Mathazzar that sometimes the tracks simply lack the "punch" and grandeur of a very large orchestra and this is most obvious in the WarCraft inspired themes. I honestly think that some cues were better, felt more natural in their semi-synthesized versions in the original WarCraft games soundtracks, for example "Eternity’s End" in it’s rendition during the outro of WarCraft 3.
The Diablo inspired music, at least to me, managed to sound somewhat more grand and majestic. "Children of the Worldstone" sounded particularly … distorted to me, a bit like Toto’s version of "Dune". The latter fitted seamlessly into the sci-fi/fantasy world of Arakis, but (apart from the chorus mid-way through the track), this Diablo piece felt out of place. It’s not that bad, actually it’s a very interesting arrangement, but it just didn’t sound right to me.
Of course, I’m listening to MP3’s on my small PC JBL speakers (and I’m not of a music guru to begin with), so I may be completely wrong.
Maybe I’m just not used to hearing those themes with a real orchestra, or I’ve had too high expectations, but it’s not what I hoped for. I’ll get it, but after a while, hopefully when the price drops.
Starcraft part… blew my mind! Those arranges are fantastic! Especially Shiina’s aproach to "Eradicate and Evolve". It’s so creative, so diverse, just incredible! I’m in love in Starcraft part, truly.
Diablo part is… interesting. It’s haunting, female vocal in "Children of the Worldstone" and "Last Angel" is quite intriguing, even if I’m not convinced to it. But overall it’s good music.
For me it is a great album. Creative, enjoyable, powerfull. And I don’t even like Blizzard;).
The marks and highlights of the melodies/songs are slightly different than the original tracks by Blizzard, but imho, Echoes of War is an incredible listen. Sure it’s performed by a smaller orchestra, yes, and it sounds a little bit messier at points, but not everybody sounds like the London Philharmonic Orchestra (for example).
I bought the Legendary Edition and happily received it on Friday, and I’m 100% happy with my purchase; DEFINITELY worth picking up if you heard ANY of Eminence’s stuff and/or a fan of Blizzard.

i’m not able to DL, and extract audio xD
i know howww…
but it’s download limit issues,
thanks
Listen to their work on Romeo x Juliet – roughly the same numbers, but listen to how much bigger they sound. That’s a fine recording. It’s not the number of musicians that counts – it’s all down to the quality of the arrangements and the skill of your recording engineer. I’ve heard 40 piece orchestras sound massive and 80 piece orchestras sound like crap – and it’s all down to the quality of the recording.
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say WHAT THE HELL is that Eradicate and Evolve track?! I know some people like it, but DEAR GOD, what a hideous mess of noise! To my credit, I made it as far as that dispicable record-winding-up effect about five minutes in and then I shut it off in disgust. Dear Go Shiina (and the other arrangers who completely wrecked their chosen pieces) – This is supposed to be an album of orchestral arrangements – not an exercise in how-many-synth-noises-and-drums-and-silly-effects-and-God-knows-what-else-can-I-play-all-at-once… Please – if you’re going to make an album of orchestral arrangements, get some skilled orchestrators and a good engineer, and allow the modern symphony orchestra to really, really SHINE…
Peace 🙂
Or it HAS a video?
All i know is that i’m after pure audio xD
I won’t DL anything else…
I just wanna know if i’m being an idiot and this IS just audio, orr…
Well, yeah…
Thanks ><
The CDs contain music (well, if you’re prepared to stretch your definition of the term music anyway) whereas the videos contain videos.
*looks confused*
*goes to bed*
Yeah.. sorry, i go through these threads fast xD
and it’s not CLEAR ENOUGH that there’s an AUDIO DL and a VIDEO DL, maybe to you guys it’s obvious xD
But it’d be obvious to ME anyway if it was like
