Does anyone ele feel that British film holds a lot more realism than Hollywood films. Don’t get me wrong some of my favourite films are hollywood films but they never seem quite as realistic as films like This is England or KiDULTHOOD

Are we talking old Hollywood, or present day Hollywood? Old Hollywood is untouchable.

I think recently some British movies have been quite good Eg..28 Days Later..and have inspired big Hollywood films ie I am Legend..but it all comes down to money.England has no money hence the crap movies of the past.

One Name: Danny Boyle
About a million movies: 28 Days Later, Trainspotting, Sunshine

Hollywood blockbusters suck!
Bring on the indie movies please!

I just finished watching This is England, and I would like to say, loved it! Great music throughout also. Damn good Dietro Casa!

An equivalent American movie would be American History X, I think you should check it out!

I think a lot of british films benefit from the obvious lack of budget, if it means having to actually create a plot and believable characters rather then relying on special effects and big stars to pull in the punters that can hardly be a bad thing.

I prefer British films myself to American films.

I adore classic black and white British films… the 40s and 50s…. directors from such films landed jobs with THE AVENGERS in the 60s during the British film slump.

I’d sooner cozy up with a Joan Greenwood film than anything from today’s bombastic Hollywood (no story, just effects). Still trying to hunt down a quality DVD of ‘Young Wive’s Tale’.
