An epic orchestral soundtrack with very nice female voice(s?) in the choir. Mostly composed by Kai Rosenkranz (tracks 1-25) and performed by Bochum Symphony Orchestra (tracks 1-24). While not the most complicated music in the world, this score has a pretty unique touch and lots of variety. "For symphonic lovers", as arthierr would have said. 😉
Composed by a 26 year old composer (!), it features some very good highlights. Cues like "Title Theme", "Vista Point", "Showdown" or "Divine Powers" are remarkable for a game soundtrack. A real choir (the FILMharmonic Choir Prague) is used at some points, to increase the level of epic. Also some original and exotic instruments are used to distinguish the various regions of the world of Gothic III (btw, did you know the taiko drums players performing here are the same who performed in the Matrix series? Pretty good reference isn’t it? ;)).
Overall it’s a very fine game score, extremely enjoyable when playing the game, but also valuable as a stand-alone listening experience. I wish more games get such a budget for their music.
