Final Fantasy IV and Dragon Quest IV-VI are announced for Usa Nintendo DS ports. Final Fantasy V and VI are almost certainly going to be announced eventually for ports to Nintendo DS for Usa. Final Fantasy VII-IX and Dragon Warrior VII, I believe will almost certainly be announced eventually for ports to Nintendo DS 2(the successor to DS). As for the other top Square Enix rpg’s that came out for Snes and PS 1, I wonder which ones Square Enix and fans are most interested in getting DS/PSP ports for.
Not including the main Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest numbered titles, here are the other likely nominees for possible ports to be announced in the next few years by Square Enix, from games released originally in Usa:
Secret of Mana, Super Mario Rpg, Xenogears, Vagrant Story, Chrono Cross.
Of those games I’ve only beaten the first two. I give Secret of Mana a 9/10 and Super Mario Rpg a 7/10. I’d likely give scores of at least 9/10 to the other three games though, which I haven’t beaten yet. I can’t choose which game I’d like ported over since I haven’t beaten them all.
Which of those five games would you most like to see ported over to DS and/or PSP, or their successors, in the United States? 🙂
If i had a PSP, I probably would’ve picked up copies of all of the games I just mentioned. Buying a PSP and the games on top of it is just not worth it to me for games I’ve already played/beaten a ton of times. I watched the VP FMVs on YouTube, looked over the gfx for SO 2 (and tbh, I prefered the older sprites/character design), and the rest I just chalk up as a loss.
I don’t have any real desire to see any particular game come out as a remake or port, but if something comes out that I’d enjoy playing on my DS, I’ll pick it up.
Thanks, this is pretty good information.
Secret of Mana, Vagrant Story, and Chrono Cross, are the ones that can be ported I guess. Oh by the way I only listed games that were originally released in Usa. I’m hoping to see what happens to this thread poll results.
keyword: JAPAN.
the rest of the world wants mario rpg back.
either in VC or a ds port
I was told by ThroneofOminous that Xenogears and Super Mario RPG have been released for Playstation Network and Virtual Console, so they probably won’t be released for handhelds. This leaves us with waiting for announcements for Secret of Mana, Vagrant Story, and Chrono Cross.
Of those three I think Secret of Mana would be announced first. Since it came out 7 years before the other two and was a generation previous to them. I think it’d be on DS since Sword of Mana was on the Gameboy Advance, and Square Enix would be consistent with handheld manufacturers. For Vagrant Story, I would expect that to be announced afterwards, for a possible 2010 release, ten years after the original came out. I’d expect a PSP release, since FF Tactics was ported to the PSP. Chrono Cross I’d expect to be announced third, and probably for the DS 2(successor to DS), since Chrono Trigger went to DS, and Chrono Cross is a generation later, so probably will go to DS 2. I don’t expect this to be released for 3-6 years or something though.
I like this topic, and I’ll buy and play Chrono Trigger for the Nintendo DS, but I hope this time they include Radical Dreamers(and the other three Satellaview games)! 🙂
ThroneofOminous, which port(s) are you looking forward to from the ones in this thread?

Yeah, it’s kinda shitty how VC/PSN releases aren’t worldwide. Like, when I last checked, the Euro PSN keeps getting more PS1 classics. I’m sure the Jap has even more. US is kinda stuck with shitty ones. =/ Well, sans SOTN.
None of them. I already own Vagrant Story and Chrono Cross and don’t have much interest in Secret of Mana.
In terms of what’s most likely though, SE has expressed interest in porting Vagrant Story to the PSP (http://www.destructoid.com/blogs/Anarpis/vagrant-story-port-heading-to-psp–48802.phtml).
everything for the ds, nothing for the playstationphailure..
sorry, but after i read that LOLD and had to post it here.
Quoted4Truth
this reminds me i had this one chance of buying it for 9 dlls, semi new (box,x book, even that plastic thingy for SNES carts)
but i could only afford 1 game, and i choose illusion of gaia (in the same condition).
now that i think about it, IOG is an awesome action-rpg game, it should be remade for the DS.
RIGHT!?
No more ports!
Make sequels of games like Vagrant Story and SaGa Frontier instead of porting them over with updated graphics and two new items.
Porting titles should be castigated. It’s the video game equivalent of recycling. Porting gives newcomers the ability to play the games, but what incentive is offered to people who already own one, two, or three different versions of the game? It would be much more beneficial to place the same characters and environments in an entirely new story, because then everyone would buy it. Just put them in an alternative dimension, or hopefully something more clever.
Who would choose 11 ports of Final Fantasy I over something like Final Fantasy I Alter Code F or Final Fantasy I-2?
