Okay, so I’m trying to save gil here. Before some jackass comes and said "Google" or "Gamefaqs" hear me out.

Yensa’s Genus is "Ichthian", and the descriptions of the Monographs usually refer to the Genus, like "Beast" or "Avion", right? But, apparently Yensa DOES have a Monograph drop, the Yensa Fin, so there’s gotta be one that affects it. Though, no one mentions Ichthians.

Thing is, every "Grimoire FAQ" on Gamefaqs just has the descriptions taken from the game, so it wouldn’t say about Ichthians. Also there isn’t exactly a Bestiary there, and the ones there are don’t have that information.

I’m saving gil here, so I don’t want to get the wrong Monograph, each time buying the only one(s) I’m gonna need for the next area I go to.

So, I’ve tried googling many different things with the keywords "Monograph, Bestiary, Yensa, Fin, Ichthian" and even then it took forever and eventually after several tries it took me to a place that said it’s the Mage’s Monograph. I bought the Mage’s Monograph, yet I’m not getting any Yensa Fins. Is it just my luck, or do I have the wrong one? I’m starting to think it’s the wrong one because it’s supposed to be 20% drop rate.

I actually think that since Urutan-Yensa are humanoids, they don’t have a monograph. Or at least they don’t have a monograph drop.

I’d almost be tempted to try Dragoon’s next…

Yensa, not Urutan-Yensa. Yensa are those big fish things.

EDIT: So it was my luck after all, got a couple fins. 20% chance… I’ll have trouble believing that but alright.

I’ve been told the Mage’s Monograph effects the Yensa’s drop, but I’ve never tried it out for myself. I just kept tediously chaining Yensas until I got what I needed.

If you steal from them, then kill them it kinda doubles your chances at getting what you need. What do you need the fins for? Gil?

Well, if you noticed, I said I already got them. So this thread can die.

But since you asked, if by "Gil" you mean "Bazaar Goods", then yet.

And I don’t believe Stealing has an effect on Monograph drops… eh?

Though I love how in this game you can steal and drop from the same enemy where in most others you can’t.

I don’t think the Grimoires have an affect on your stealing, but if you steal with the Thief’s Gloves you have an alright chance at stealing a rare item and if you have the required Grimoire you may also get the rare item as loot.

The thread can die I just like puzzling questions and having an answer to one, I just couldn’t resist posting.

I think if you steal from and kill those pumpkin looking things… umm Alraune you get Succulent Fruit which is worth 363 Gil each. Pretty good for saving up Gil. I think I’ve been in you’re exact situation before. I asked a similar question on the Playstation forums and they told me this little trick.
