I’ve put that in the title as this question is about Quickenings and i really doubt i am the first to mention them.
I don’t want to go through previous threads incase i stumble onto any spoilers!
I am aware of what they are, just not sure how to use them properly.
Is it timing with the r2 key button maybe?

By the way, does anyone else feel guilty about slaying monsters that don’t automatically retaliate or are asleep or is it just me?

Haha depends which. If they’re helping me then maybe, otherwise nah.

Oh, and Quickenings… yeah, I haven’t played in a long time so I forget if it’s R2 or R1 (assuming R2 since that’s what you said, just whatever button reshuffles).

Here’s how it works, basically. As long as you see a pushable button (circle, square, or triangle) press one, and keep doing that. The R2 button reshuffles them, like, you’d wanna hit it if you see none are available until one is, and so on. The thing goes by faster and faster making it harder, but once you get to the point where it zooms by and it’s near impossible to get, you’ve most likely got a good chain. Sometimes when you see nothing available after a few taps, you might start tapping R2 a little too fast that you skip over one, so watch out.

I’m not sure what determines the likelihood to be able to continue. Sometimes instead of a name of one of the Quickenings, you’ll see "Mist Charge". I could easily be wrong seeing as I don’t know the official definition of what it does, but all I know is that you press the button for the Mist charge it shuffles them and makes at least one or two available (always the one who just charged) and makes them good. I could also be wrong about this but it seems to prolong the chains making you more likely to get one, again I could be wrong about that but still don’t pass up the opportunity for a Mist Charge if you see one.

The Quickenings may seem elemental in name but they all do the same thing, just physically attack and are just a place for 18 nice animations, and you can choose in what order you want to give them out to who. Also the end results, "Inferno", "Torrent", "Cataclysm", etc. are also all elemental sounding names but are also NOT elemental. They’re physical and non-elemental and have a certain order of merit by strength. Inferno is the weakest and probably the one you’d get a lot at the beginning. It’s the different combinations of how many level 1, 2, or 3 Quickenings you use that’ll determine what the end result will be. All they are are physical attacks, and the longer you manage to drag a chain out for, and the higher the level of the ones you use, the stronger it’ll be when unleashed.

The game won’t stop itself from killing you if your characters wind up with sleep/stop/immobilize/disable/etc. If the game gives you an advantage, use it.
