Audiosurf is a new puzzle game that is making waves in the gaming community. The key feature is that the game is tuned to play according to the music you upload.

So you’re riding the wave of you favorite music while matching color blocks and earning points. It’s a stream exclusive and the service has a high score board where you can compete against other players in total points.

So is this game going to revolutionize the puzzle genre, or is this just another passing game?

Audiosurf is a new puzzle game
No it isn’t.

Revolutionize? It’s not even an original concept.

It’s pretty cool but it didn’t hold my interest for even a whole week so I don’t think it’s revolutionary by any means.

No it isn’t.

Really, then what is it?

Everywhere I go, they say music based puzzle game.

It’s not new.

When I said new, I wasn’t talking about the concept, nor was I talking about the concept when I said revolutionized. What I meant was adding new life to the genre in terms of popularity. My fault for not making that clear.

Yeah, you chose the worst way to word your OP. In fact, your explanation seems really far-fetched to save face.

Really? Read my original post carefully, especially the final sentence.

I think he was referring to the fact that Audiosurf came out ages ago – and was incredibly overhyped by every PC-gaming outlet everywhere.

Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s awesome, but the gameplay itself isn’t revolutionary. The track generation and social aspects however, are. Personally, i’d like to see Harmonix and the developer of Audiosurf get together to create a game like Rock Band where you can feed your own MP3s in.

I understood that last sentence to clearly ask, "will Audiosurf fundamentally change the puzzle genre or not"– still a ridiculous notion given that gameplay differs only marginally from other rhythm-based puzzlers. (The aforementioned Rock Band, Guitar Hero, Dance Dance Revolution, and forty other copycats.)

If you’re trying to ask whether it will add new life, the answer should be obvious I think.
