For the longest time I’ve been wanting another copy of the original Super Mario Bros. 3 with box and instruction manual. They were stolen from me when I was in 7th grade :(. I’ve only been able to find the original cartrige which is in really good condition, but today I found a near mint game with box and instruction that I just won off of eBay. I also still have my "black lable" copy of Final Fantasy VII and a copy of Secret of Mana which I hear are both worth a lot, but probobly worth more to me to sell. I think the only 2 things I wish I had again were the original Nintendo Power strategy guides for SMB3 and Mario Mania Super Mario World, which is the SMW strategy guide, but also has a history on SMB, art, etc.
I still have my Megadrive and SNES in boxes in the attic. One of the things i loved, but cannot find anywhere for the life of me, is Blackhawk for the SNES. It was a great game.
But i still have most of the games i have ever bought. Bar a few that i felt were mediocre enough to trade in for others.
Also the original FF, complete in box. Pics of SoM can be provided if requested. FF is in Cabinet Awesomeness video on my YouTube account. Mario Mania is in closet, no pics anytime soooooon~

Grr…
However, the most precious thing I want is what I not have – a ROB ;-;
OT: Uh… Noth-ing? Never had anything I wished I didn’t sell. (FTR, I’ve never owned SoM, but my cousin did and that’s where I played it.)
I kept Final Fantasy IX, but sold Final Fantasy VII and VIII for example. I still have Xenogears, Wild Arms, Legend of Legaia, etc, and that’s just the RPG’s.
Almost forgot about My Sega Channel. Still have the equipment, even though it’s useless now.
i have too many games and accesories that one would consider "holy grail"
-space invaders for the atari 2600, with box and booklet
-dragon warrior 1 (nes), box and book
-illusion of gaia (snes), box and book.
-ninja gaiden 3 (nes), box and book.
-super mario bros, mint condition (hell, it even has the plastic surrounding the cardbox, has been like that since i had it)
-my atari 2600, box, book, propaganda.
-virtual boy, box, book.

the list is way big… not enough room to post it all.

SNES: arcana
sega genesis: afterburner 2 and beavis and butthead

2. The European version of Shenmue came out on DC, but minus an English dub (I hear the dub isn’t all that great anyway). I bought it at an import store and enjoyed a full year of gloating before it’s subsequent port.
And a few years ago, my girlfriend almost touched it and I yelled at her… haha, she dumped my ass xD

does your copy say MASTERPECE in the back?
First one – Commodore 64, something we can call an better version of Atari. It used an cassete recorder as an drive instead of cart readers. Unfortunately the tape got stuck from time to time and it resulted in loss of good games sometimes 🙁
The second – Amiga 500+ a very far away ancestor of PC’s. This baby had an 5.25 floppy drive and cutting edge graphics (compared to the Commodore).
A fun fact, it used an operating system called "Workbench". The most interresting thing was that it looked almost like windows, although it appeared very long before Bill Gates operating system.
The third – My games magazines collection, oldest dated 1988. My main source of information about old games & systems. I still sometimes read them, and its always fun to compare old and new games, and their reviews.
And i must admit with pride – both machines still work and my magazines are in perfect shape 🙂
Genesis
– Trouble Shooter
– Valis
– Phantasy Star IV
Dreamcast
– Twinkle Star Sprites
PC: Diablo I,II and Starcraft
PS2: Way too many to bother mentioning.
But….that series sucks.
🙂
Anyhow, this is a major toughy.. See, I have different ‘holy grails’ of gaming for different occasions. For instance, when I’m pissed, my preference shifts greatly over toward FPS titles, namely Quake 1-3, Doom 1-3 (and Final), and Half-Life 2 (which reminds me, I’d like to play that tomorrow). Pretty soon I forget why I was pissed to begin with. When I’m feeling a little more . . . shall we say creative, artistic even, I go for Zelda or Resident Evil. Those both incorporate lots of action into puzzle-solving, and I love that mix. And when I’m feeling depressed, I usually find my spirits instantly lifted by Final Fantasy. Now, that’s not to say I only play these games during periods of those respective emotions I mentioned, but when that happens, those are my holy grails.
🙂
…. you take that back or I’ll have you BANNED FROM THE FORUMS!! AND I HAVE FRIENDS WHO CAN BAN YOU!!!
(not really, but damn man. DAMN.)
you mean slow, buddy? haha.
Oh, and add ‘Severance: Blade of Darkness’ to my list up there under the ‘is pissed and needs to take out some aggression on something otherwise head will explode like a volcano in a heatwave’ list.
not really you wouldnt, not with the first one at least. i have 1 and 2 on the NES and the second one is much, MUCH better than the first.
the first one was a maelstrom of frustration, and not in the kind of "hey i like hard games".
as for my holy grail? i really dont know, i have a ton of videogame related stuff that i cant seem to point out my holy grail.
but i would consider the steel battallion controller i have a very close choice because its extremely rare.
It was released near the end of the NES’s lifespan in 1993 and was only available for less than a year in retail. It is pretty rare and still fetches a good sum of money online. I’ve seen them go between 70 and 100 bucks on Ebay.
I have quite a number of rarities myself, but probably the holy grail of the collection would be either my complete SNES copy of Chrono Trigger, complete with box, manual, maps and everything, or the limited European collector’s edition of FFVIII, which came in a big box with the game, along with a memory card, memory card stickers, poster and t-shirt. Although it’s opened I still have everything intact and in good condition. I’ve seen them go for a small fortune on eBay now in far worse condition than mine. 😀
EDIT: also forgot about the European Dreamcast version of Shenmue II which I also own, but someone already mentioned that. :p

You’re lucky to have even gotten that copy of Shenmue II. The US didn’t ever get a localized version for the Dreamcast because it died before it made it’s way over here. Instead we got a port to the original XBox which from what I’ve heard is inferior to the Dreamcast version. 🙁 I have the XBox version however and it’s still a great game.
One of my other rarities is that my Dreamcast is only a year old. ;p I bought it brand new last year and opened it. hehe
to start, i got my 360 1 week before halo 3 and it was the reason I have a 360.
I still play halo 3 all the time, MW2 doesn’t interest me and same as the other fps’s out there, I will never get rid of Halo 3 along with my Halo CE and Halo 2 games.
also is Mas Effect I have the limited collectors edition for both ME1 and ME2 and love this trilogy that bioware has created, its an rpg of it own kind.
