Yeah… I noticed in the rumble there was a potential discussion asking if anyone is fluent in Al Bhed, but rather than continue it I thought I’d ask here… anyone else memorized Al Bhed?

It might seem like I have no life but it’s really not as tough as it seems considering how similar the letters usually are with exceptions. It made replaying FFX a lot more interesting (though there’s always the compilation sphere but I didn’t use it). But I pretty much had it down before starting X-2, so it kinda made it a little interesting.

I liked FFX but not enough to memorise Al Bhed O_o

I even acquired all the Primers…

It’s actually not that hard with a few exceptions.

First of all there are some obvious pairs of letters that are interchanged and easy to remember, due to them involving doing the same thing with your mouth almost. These are…

BP
GK
DT

QX are also interchanged but that shouldn’t be too hard to remember as they’re among the rarest letters used.

Then there’s the vowel system which, if every letter to the right goes from English to Al Bhed, it’s AYOUIE. Like, English A = Al Bhed Y … and so on and E=A ends the loop.

Like AYOUIE, there are three more sets of letters that loop like that, a group of three, four, and five. They are:

HRN
CLMS
FVJZW

For the first two the best advice I can give is think of "horn" and "clams", but the last one I guess you just memorize since it’s just five of the other rarest letters used in a certain order. Hah, that’s all.
