Same as what I asked about the card queen, I was just wondering if there was some sort of in-game clue on how to get him without a guide. Because who in their right mind would randomly decide to hunt Tonberries who give you 0 AP and 1 EXP?

Like… is there a guy somewhere that says "I heard something happens if you beat 20 Tonberries in Centra Ruins", eh? Or is this another thing hidden just like that?

I don’t believe that there’s a hint of any of those special GFs. The only GF that they talk about (or hint) is Ifrit in the beginning of the game.

What are you talking about… Doomtrain has all the Occult Fan books, each one has a clue on how to get Doomtrain. One is about the Solomon Ring while the other are for each of the three items you need six of.

Or did you misunderstand the question?

There also isn’t really a clue for Cactuar, Bahamut, or Eden, but they’re at least discoverable by the average person by just exploring around.

Some guy asleep in Trabia Garden is like… "damn that Tonberry King, GF summoning, blahzzzz". :p That’s not really a hint though, but I guess it suggests that it exists at least.

You got AP and Exp mixed up.

If you play cards, you’ll notice that you can fight/encounter anything that is a card. Maybe after a while, a player might wonder where he could have fought the Tonberry King.

Or, for no-level up-ers, Tonberrys are very nice monsters to unleash your stat advantage (as opposed to carding everything).

That leads into a thought ”I’ll kill Tonberries and hope that the King has some random chance of appearing”

I would say that the giant cactaur appearing on the island is a hint.

As for the Tonberry King, all I know is that he’s mentioned by a guy after Trabia’s Garden attack, and the card itself suggests that he exists, other than that I can’t see any other clues.

I believe that there are no hints because more people would buy official FFVIII guides.
