How do I do it? Say I wanted to rip the music from an obscure PSX game called Tall Infinity in mp3 VBR on a Vista x64 machine, for example. What programs do I use? How do I go about doing it?

Thanks for any help.

Well, I’ve tried ripping a few games before and it’s not always as easy as finding a program that will rip the tracks from the game with just a click of a button. There are plenty of games that cannot have their music ripped by an easy-to-use program and thus require skills that go beyond what most people are willing to learn. The editting process, if needed and it almost always is, can be very time consuming and frustrating if you’re not accustomed to it. This is especially true if the ripping process resulted with some errors.

Anyway, the format for which the audio is stored on the game is a good indication of how difficult it will be to try and rip the audio from the game.

Thanks, I’m willing to learn how to rip music and I’d keep at it until it’s finished. Being an audiophile really helps with that.

So what programs are available? Is there a program with more options than the rest?

Well, like I said before, it really all depends on how the audio is formatted on the game. Some programs are more suited to extract certain audio formats than other programs, so I will need to know what format the audio is in before I can determine whether or not I can help you.

What files/folders do you see on the game disc?

You can try using a program called Psound to check the files on the disc.

Or, you can (if you have the patience) get a headphone jack to RCA (red and white) cable along with a male to male RCA joiner to connect physically to the playstation and than record the music from your line-in port.

Alternatively if you use an emulator you can play the game in that and record the music using the "stereo mix" or "what u hear" method (depending on the sound card of course)

These are .SEQ files. I can open them with PSound, but I think each note is recorded separately and the game assembles them together. I might have to try recording from line-in like you said khalbrae…
