How early can you get the golden chocobo?

I am up to gargan roo, just about to head across to the outer continent.

What chocobo can I obtain before I leave?

You can obtain one that can travel over shallow water, but you cannot get a gold chocobo until you get an airship.

I am not sure if you can get one that travels over mountains though :/

actually, the earliest time you are able to get a gold chocobo is disc three right when you get the boat! although, some say it may trigger an ‘effect’ =)

Oh, I forgot about that! It would give you a bug that would skip a lot from the storyline

Does the game restrict you from getting certain chocographs too early?

I am not aware if it does or not. I always do the Chocobo sidequest at Disc 4

Yes, the game does restrict alot of chocographs early in the game from disc 1 to disc 2. When you have obtained the boat and have choco turned into light blue river chocobo, you can now access all chocographs as you can now enter the lagoon. remember to do both the lagoon and forest games to obtain all the necessary chocographs to evolve choco into dark blue ocean chocobo. from there you can access all the chocographs in both lagoon and forest, and then you will eventually obtain gold choco! yay! now to get all the chocographs, choco needs to fly! find chocobo’s air garden and play chocobo hot and cold there to obtain the rest of the chocographs and your done!

also note that chocobo’s air garden is where ozma is so if you dont want to fight it, avoid the rock formation top left of the garden =).

it is advised to get your gold chocobo before terra so you can see clearly and obtain powerful items early on! but… do this only after the events in mt gulug to avoid any bugs/glitches.

the time between mt gulug and ispens castle is when you should be leveling your party to around level 50 and above =D so while doing this, do all the other sidequests as it is the perfect time to.

searching for things is hard when you have mist covering the place =)

I hated that guy, but when I went to the garden my first time, I didn’t know about him…. It sucked. I had to find the stupid garden again.

Actually you can’t. At that point you can only go as far as the Ocean chocobo. Gold chocobo is available right after you get the Hilda Garde, and before Ipsen’s Castle.

I think i got it at CD 3, before it there’s still so many restrictions that forbid us to attain gold chocobo (mostly restricted by geographical terrain).
