I’m up for anything from (not so) soft rock to heavy metal (but I’m more inclined for the latter  ).
I’m practically a virgin when it comes to rock soundtracks, so any suggestion is welcome, no matter how mainstream and popular the anime or game the music comes from is.
For a very obscure example of what I like, check out these tracks from GENESHAFT:
"Shaft Drive (TV version)" (http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/4223/9)
"Identification" (http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/4223/16)
"The day believe all things" (http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/4223/8)
And the beautiful "Broken camera" (http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/4223/2)
But please think outside of these styles too. Thanks in advance!
So does Orange Box.
Hell Rock (TV ost 1), Hell Boy (TV ost 2), Hell Metal (TV season 2 ost 1), Hell Illustration (TV season 2 ost 2).
Composed by Takanashi Yasuharu.
P.S. His music for Naruto Shippuuden also contains many rock-styled themes.
That’s exactly what I had in mind.
For video games, Ace Combat Zero has a BEAUTIFUL (spanish) rock and roll tune in "Zero", along with 4’s "Comona". If you don’t mind lyrics in your music, Sonic R has a number of tunes to choose from(they lean towards R&B as well as R&R, just as a heads-up).
Auto Modellista
Shadow The Hedgehog (lots of non-rock filler tracks though, but there’s some nice tunes)
Advance Wars: Days Of Ruin (I don’t know if there’s a high quality OST out there, but the songs I have are really lo-fi since it’s a direct DS rip… Good music though)
Quake 2 and 3
Red Alert 1 and 2
Unreal Tournament 2003’s "Deathmatch 1" track.
Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children also has some kick-ass tracks.

Oh yeah!!! Some nice grooves in there, but it’s exhausting going through the entire OST non-stop.
Also Bloody Roar (the OSTs to part 3 and Extreme especially) have some good stuff on them The tracks are a bit short though (they only loop once)
But generally, the amount of decent rock music in games is limited, except you want your electronica and fusion influences.
