Has anybody heard anything about this? This game has been advertised on the back of GamePRO magazine for, oh, at least the past three months now. It uses the slogan "Why pay to use your imagination? — MMORPG FREEdom" and advertises itself as being a free RPG to "download and play at mabinogi.nexon.net." The illustration is nice, though the provided game graphics look so-so at best. I’m reluctant to check out the site without more info — I don’t generally play PC games, and I’d be surprised if my system could handle it. But I though I’d feel it out, see anyone here knows anything about it.

I don’t think it is heavy on system requirements at all.

I was looking into it for a little while but ultimately decided to just leave since most free MMOs are just awful.

It’s sort of a virtual life type thing, with the ability to age, play music, fish, have pets, farm, etc. jftr

Hmm… I see. Sounds like the type of game I’m definitely not into. A free, low-quality version of The Sims, maybe kinda like?

I know exactly what you mean. The concept is nice in theory, but more likely than not, there’s a reason why it’s free, and it doesn’t take too much to figure out exactly what that reason is.

Yeah that’s exactly it. In the end it is just a grindfest with a subpar battle system (from what I’ve heard).

I played this for maybe a week when it was in open beta. Although it’s really fun at the early levels, later on, like Chewey said, it’s mostly just a grindfest. The non-grindy stuff is all lifeskills oriented, which it doesn’t seem like you’re into at all. I also found the community to be really annoying.

It’s free because they have a cash shop that sells all sorts of items for the game. As far as I can tell, if you want to keep playing with one character, you’ll eventually have to pay some money to be able to keep up. I was playing before the cash shops were introduced, though, so I am no expert on them.
