I need a good recommendation on a GSF file player.
Apparently, whenever I attempt to use the GSF player in Winamp (and for some reason it seems like the only player ever made for these files), nothing plays. I know how to use the emulated files, how to decompress the files, etc. but nothing is playing in Winamp. I know I’ve installed it at least halfway correctly because when I opened up a test miniGSF file, it gave me the name and total time, just nothing plays.
I’ve tried the CaithSit GSF player v.0.11 on Winamp 5.24 (it seems to be one of the most stable for me) in Vista. All other video game music plug-ins I have no problems with; just this one is giving me a headache.
Lord have mercy, all I’m trying to do is get a (possibly) better version of Kraid’s theme in Metroid Zero Mission than the one already uploaded on the MP3 download section from the front page.
Anyone can help? It would be most appreciated.=)
* ok I know you cannot play it even tho you use latest.. I have read its a vista problem.. I went back to XP and everything works fine so try that :P:P or try what they say on that website about if it crashes for you 🙂 good luck
Incase you need any help finding music 😛
You can get lots of music from here
http://snesmusic.org/hoot/kingshriek/ssf/ (Sega Saturn)
ftp://ftp.modland.com/pub/modules
http://hcs64.com/2sf/ (Nintendo DS music)
Latest plugins
2sf http://foobar2000.xrea.jp/up/files/up875.zip
dsf http://foobar2000.xrea.jp/up/files/up869.zip
ssf http://foobar2000.xrea.jp/up/files/up870.zip
OK To play those use them , but to play lots of new formats like gamecube, wii etc found on the ftp server above or the hcs64 website.. you can use the in_cube plugin for winamp found here
http://www.hcs64.com/in_cube.html
I have XP on my desktop so I guess I will try it there. I read yesterday where someone else had the same problem that I’ve been having. It was suggested to try naming the plug-in to something else different, but I’m not sure how that would exactly help.
I wound up finding a MUCH-better quality version at Metroid Database, which is where I probably should have gone in the first place to get Metroid music. I love Galbadia but the version they have of the song is extremely scratchy and has background noise.
I will give it a try in XP and see what happens.
Thanks for your help, though.
Chipamp (http://www.chipamp.org/)
and then just use in_cube for everything else
And while Chipamp is great if I don’t already have the plug-ins, I already have them. It just won’t play in Vista, I’m sure. And trust me, I just tried it and nothing is happening.

I think I can safely say the GSF plug-in is lame. It doesn’t do me any good to try to play GBA stuff if the plug-in doesn’t work, and I’m not uninstalling and re-installing it, either. I shouldn’t have to do that. Given that this is the only GBA plug-in out there, it ought to work is all I’m saying. Thank goodness there isn’t much that I want anyway.

you have gsf and it doesnt work
you are running on vista but that really shouldn’t matter as long as winamp is running correctly
with highly advanced in the plugins folder all you should need to do is to restart winamp and add the extension to open in winamp(open preferences and go to file types, and highlight gsf and minigsf, then restart winamp to register the filetype)
other than that you just have to keep the gsf/minigsf files in the same folder as the gsflib file and then just play them as normal mp3s
um that is pretty much all i can think of if none of this works your really should reinstall winamp cause its not working correctly
hope it helps good luck
I also do not have a gsflib file. When I downloaded the plug-in, I assumed I was getting everything. Apparently not. I didn’t get that file. So I do not know what else I’m supposed to do. Upgrading Winamp probably won’t do me any good, either.
Like I said, I will just stick with what I have since the plug-in is a mess. It’s not worth the trouble and the time that I’ve had to go through to get it to work.

gsflib file is what you dl to play the song it usually comes with the zip file of the games music, that being said you aren’t missing it.
when you put the in_gsf.dll in C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins make sure its not in any sub folders like this
then close winamp and reopen it
open the Preferences menu (Ctrl+P) go to the file types tab and highlight gsf and minigsf
if it is not there check the inputs tab and see if you have the Highly Advanced input in the list
if not gsf isn’t compatible with your version of winamp some how
gsf developers strongly recommend reinstalling if you are having problems with winamp recognizing the plugin or crashing as some other plugins may interfere
hoping al goes well if you highlighted them in the file types list close winamp a second time and reopen it. this will tell winamp to open .minigsf and .gsf just by when you double click on them
when you play them in winamp (barring they are named correctly) you should get this
i really hope this helps you and other ppl having the same problem
Its EXACTLY the same problem the guy made his topic about, winamp recognizes the file, its title etc. Highly advanced assigned its name as %Game %title like its supposed to, but it doesn’t produce any sound.
It did work for me 2 days ago but then it suddenly just stopped working.
No I did not install new plugins, I didn’t do anything with winamp nor the plugin itself.
Any other solutions?
The only resolutions I could possibly think of is to switch your output plugin from direct sound to wave or going to "C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Application Data\Winamp" and deleting the Winamp.ini to erase the settings. As a last resort you should reinstall Winamp.

Reinstalled winamp 4 times already :/
EDIT: Done it with the wave_out part, Gives me an error saying:
Not supported PCM format (0Hz, 0 bits per sample, 0 channels). Modify format settings in configuration screen of input plugins or output plugin WaveOut plugin.
EDIT2: Sigh, not even older versions of winamp fixed it, it must be the plugin…
I never did get it to work.
FSynchro: I had the same problem with the plug-in showing up as a trojan horse on my desktop that’s running XP. AVG picked it up and we got rid of it. It’s the plug-in that’s not working, not Winamp, so you’re not missing something there.
It sucks to say this but the plug-in is bunk AND a troublemaker. Thanks, but no thanks.

To be honest, AVG is one of the worst anti viruses i’ve ever seen. It recognizes unharmful, innocent programs as trojans and viruses.
Last time I’ve used it, it said hl2.exe was a trojan horse.
(for the people that don’t know, hl2 = half life 2, a game made by valve. hl2.exe is also used for garry’s mod and Counter strike-Source.)
Try Avast instead.
Either way, not a single person seems to know how to fix this.
Ugh. Guess I can forget playing the good old GSF files on my winamp :/.
If there’s an alternative way to play GSF files, then I would be glad to use that. Since Highly advanced, well lets say..
Its just out of date and doesn’t work anymore.
Now I just ripped apart my entire winamp uninstalled it and completely erased every trace of it. Reinstalled and then installed GSF and it worked.
If the problem isn’t with winamp than the only logical other reason is with the computer and windows.
I wouldn’t suggest reinstalling windows unless you specifically know what you are doing, but its probably the best way to go if nothing is working.
Note: That I suggested reinstalling windows and that doesn’t have anything to do with reformatting your hard drive.
Is there really no other way to let me play my GSF files?
Really, HA is just erhm, lets say fucked up.
This plugin is pissing me off really bad.. Making me want to smash my computer into pieces.
I even tried this build: http://www.caitsith2.com/gsf/player/HA_0.11ni.exe, with the interpolation build blah blah blah removed.
Didn’t work. Anyone out there helping us fix this?
Could anybody who has a working Winamp WITH Gsf, just pack their winamp with all the plugins into a rar/zip and upload it somewhere and let us use that?
Really, that would help us out alot.
Thanks.

I don’t know how much that will help cause Winamp needs to be registered to receive full functionality.

Microsoft windows XP SP2 Genuine.
AMD Athlon X64 Dual core 4000+
Realtek HD Audio.
What else do you need?
EDIT: Fucking hell, nothing seems to work on this GSF plugin. Is this actually supposed to work or?
Not even a fucking reinstall of windows fixed it.
I really don’t know wtf i’m doing wrong then..
EDIT2: WOOT FIXED IT 😀
It had something to do with Page Pool memory (endless looping sounds stuck on soundcard). I had the same problem appearing on steam on Garry’s mod. Fixed it by reloading the Soundcard on the mainboard.
Thnx for the help everyone.
