I was listening a few minutes ago, UT2003, 2004, UT3 and GOW2 ost, and I noticed that something is missing on games.
I missed that "adrenaline" on music, what happened with those Synth Beats, those Industrial\Metal riffs, those Techno Orchestrated music?
I really miss when games used to use Techno\Metal music.
Only a few ones still using it, but are not too good to listen.
I miss that energy on games.
Its just me or anyone else feels the same?, or there is a logical explanation for this?
Ambiental music is good, I use to listen to it, but no all time all the 24hrs at day, sometime I want listen something hard.
Fast-paced boisterous music (i.e. metal and some kinds of techno/synthpop) really gets the blood flowing and the action rolling.
Indeed, I used to do that sometimes xDD
It is hibernating, please lower your voices.
hahaahahaha, lol ?
System Shock – The Attempted Virus Mix and Shock the System mixes are also pretty cool Here
Super Metroid – Well this mix is not exactly what I hoped for, but it’s highly professional. Some are very good while some not nearly as pleasant, in a track vs. track sense. Protricity did most of music, I liked his works the most.
Should also check out the DMC 4 ost.
Maybe.
Im not saying the music its bad, no! The quality on music have an amazing development nowadays, and its really stunning see how it still growing.
But thats not my point, my point is that mostly OST nowadays is losing their "propose".
Mostly OST are done for fit with the environment, and not with the situation.
Not sure it you get what Im saying.
My favorite examples are "Quake2", those industrial\rock music fit perfecly to understand the action and the tech idea of stroogs.
"Unreal" have a nice etnic\new-age\techno tracks, everything fits good, and have a nice music (thanks to the mod script on music) change when the action starts.
Those sci-fi techno with some mix with rock drums and electric guitar riffs are stunning, even now.
"StarFox" from SNES was a great inspiration for me and still, those tracks really got me inside the game.
Tracks from "DeathKarz" or "Forsaken", even "Doom2" have nice midis songs; "Command & Conquer", geez! what a nice tracks!
"Unreal Tournament 1" was the first moment I noticed a problem on music, anyway UT have nice techno\rock BGM, tracks like "razorback" and "firebr" make me want to kill and dont stop playing.
I miss those feelings.
Nowadays, music its just… that. No one put really effort on music, everyone can remember the game, but not the composer.
Artists like "Sonic Mayhem" still kicking ass.
BUT if you put me some boring orchestas and piano solos… uhhhmm.. are good, but not all the time.
No if we are talking about Hardcore games and high speed action like GOW, UT, COD4, etc.
I got a disappointment on Homeworld2, but was nice, but I needed more "adrenalina feeling", the BGM maked me stop playing after 1 or 2hours.
Unreal, on the other hand, has an amazing soundtrack I agree, even I managed to record a handful of samples and recently downloaded the entire rip someone was kind enough to make, haven’t been able to find the OST yet.
As for the composers, well lately I’m more familiar with a bunch of them than previously, mostly Japanese though
I’m sure I’m good, but I can’t see a point in carrying on since I have no idea how to get it to anyone who could help me, sigh….
Actually I do make music; mostly games remixes.
Originally I did music for video games projects, now for Rave\Party media or just personal purposes.
Anyway, people still saying that my music sound like video games BGM xD
Ya, my genres are "ambiental", "industrial", "rock", "sci-fi techno (actually trance, but I want sound rave\techno =P)"
But I’m still trying getting into the movie scene =3
… I need too many years of practice thought.
anyyyyway…
