No you can’t unfortunately. The 30 day free subscription is for all new accounts, and if you bought your copy second hand you won’t be able to get that, due to the fact a new account was most probably made by the previous owner.

To utilise the free subscription you need to create a new account which means when you enter the registration key for FFXI (and it’s subsequent expansion’s, as they too have registration keys.), that copy is then locked to that account.

If you still want to play this game, you’ll have to try and get a new copy either from a game store or go and buy it online from Square’s website (http://www.playonline.com).

Similar question… can I play a used copy *at all*? I have one I got really cheap, don’t know if it ever was used but I’m guessing so… can the same reg keys on the back be used to create a seperate new account and install/play the thing? Or is the whole thing useless once the keys have been used once?

IIRC, each registration key is linked to a particular PlayOnline ID account. So unless you have the original user’s Playonline ID and password registered to that particular copy of the game, it’s pretty much useless. If you do, I believe you can log in under his/her ID, then change the account info and credit card stuff to reflect the new owner. If not, you’re better off buying a new copy of the game (about $20 US).

I’m guessing by the wear on the underside of the discs they’re well used though. Oh well… one for the shelf. At least I dont gotta waste another 30 mins ebay listing it =)

I believe the word you’re looking for is moot and no, I’m not sure of any alternative method to check a key.

If you want knew reg keys just buy them off the FFXI play online offical web site if you’re just looking for new keys. You can use your used disks to do the downloads if you want, but if you got a used account becareful. It goes against the ToS that SE has plus the old owner can say it was hacked give SE the all the info they need IE DoB and the key codes and they get the account back and riping you off whatever you paided for it….it’s not uncommon and ppl have done it before.
