Your Party of Choice?

Well since I didn’t see a new thread like this, here it goes. In FFVII what characters were in your party of choice? What were they before Aeriths death? Why.

Before Aeriths death of course she was in my main party so I can always use her while I had the oppurtunity before her death.

So before her death:
Cloud(of course you have to keep him in your party, but I’d keep him even if I didn’t have to ;)).
Tifa (because I think her limit breaks are as strong as Clouds despite the slots)
Aerith (Greath Gospel and with certain materia combos, you can make her stronger than she actually is).

After Aeriths Death:

Cloud
Tifa
3rd party member would vary, (would vary between Barrett, Cid, Vincent, Red XIII, and Yuffie). The 3rd party member would always vary depending on what character I always felt like using at the time, or to refresh my memory of the characters in action.

My playthrough before I knew she died.

Before death:
Aeris for her better healing
Red XII because he generally did more damage.

After death:
Cid because of magic and damage
Red XII same as above.

Playthrough after I knew she died…

Cid and Red XII as they are easier and faster to attain max hp/mp/damage dealt, imo.

Cait Sith
Red XIII

After:
Tifa
Cait Sith
Red XIII
(I left off during Cloud’s coma) 😀

On disc 1, I use Cloud, Red XIII, and Yuffie. Cloud is always well-rounded, and Red XIII is a good buffer. Then Yuffie is good with ninja stuff like stealing and morphing. Then I suppose I just keep that after disc one as well. Probably throw in Barret while Cloud is out.

Tifa

Well, since I haven’t posted in the umpteen previous threads by the same name/description, I may as well add my input to this one.

I always rotated my party members using different members for different parts of the game. Eventually, my party would typically end up being Cloud, Barret and Cid, sometimes Tifa, as their Limits are by far the most powerful at higher levels and that is basically the only thing that counts at that point.

Barret’s sucked(opinion) and Tifa’s relied on luck.

The point is that they hit multiple times, which will always do the most damage at the end of the game.

Cid’s did around 4k every missle and Red XII’s was always 9999 for flavor. And of course a 9998-9999 per hit Omnislash.

With Barret’s I’d get 2000/hit if I was lucky and I never used Tifa after Midgar.

Barret hits at least 5 times or so (probably more; I haven’t used him in a long time) which puts him over 9999 with those figures. That’s better than a one-hit attack. Tifa, on the other hand, hits 7 times, and at a high enough level, you can do probably around 5000 per hit.

That Cid’s and Cloud’s leave the rest behind is a given, of course. But that’s because they hit more times than anything else.

Really now? With Barrett I’d hit way more than 2000 and with Tifa you may have to have luck with the slots, but they were some of the easiest slots to follow imo and I had way more luck with Tifa than Cait Sith. But whatever floats your boat ;).

The reason Barret always did so little damage is his Ultimate weapon did damage relative to the Materia AP in its slots. Since I never use him, he would be level 42 compared to my level 97 mains. An obvious stat leap.

Well, that says nothing about his value as a character. I don’t see your point if it isn’t an explanation why you decided not to use him at the end of the game, which is usually not when people choose their final parties anyway.

I played the game too long ago to be able to remember for definite, though I’m pretty sure Cloud, Tifa, Barret (and I think Red XIII) were the party members I used the most often throughout the whole game.

I didn’t use him initially because I wanted to try the newer characters and was too lazy to rotate.

I havn’t played it since last year but my party always seems to stay the same the whole way through the game. My main party is:

Cloud
Red XIII
Tifa

I suppose i have both Red XIII and Tifa because of their strong attacks, ive always been the type of person to rely on physical attacks instead of magic.

Ungarmax hits up to about 15 times. With high enough strength, that’s potentially 148,000-odd damage. Same with Highwind and Omnislash. That’s why I use those three, Swami.

Also, in FFVII, the characters you don’t use also gain EXP. So it’s hard to see how Barret could be Lv. 42 if your others are 97, unless you purposely KO’d Barret to stop his flow of EXP, which would be stupid.

They only gain a little less than half and the levels given are estimates since my save file is in Texas and I’m in Cali. Not easy to check.

Ungarmax=Barret’s Level 3:2 (or is it 3:1?) Limit Break. It might be known as Angermax in non-PAL versions.

Also, I sincerely doubt your claim that non-party characters only recieve half the EXP of those in your party, but even if that were the case, the way the EXP ‘ladder’ works, even half of a Lv. 97 char’s EXP would probably be enough to get another character from Lv. 1 to at least Lv. 80.

i think i switched characters a lot, i didnt have much preference.

Oh ya, Angermax… bleh. As for the XP claim I remember reading it from "The Unofficial Ultimate Final Fantasy 7 Guide’. Best guide ever. No spoilers and every secret, tip, game mechanic, and tid bit in the game.

As for your claim that character would be at 80 is also incorrect since only 3 got past 50. I also just remembered that your inactive characters only receive the ~50% XP on the World map. Since most of my levelling was in the North Crater dungeon, there ya go.

ok the best setup do deal some insane damage was

cloud (omnislash + mime)
barret (ungermax+mime)
cid (highwind+mime)

(if you dont count vincents overflow glitch)

Your setup seems like a hassle as mime mimics the last action performed so you’d have to wait for the same character’s next turn.

if i used that tatic i would have the 2 other charaters dead first. trust me if done right you could kill emrald weapon in no time

Before Aeries’ death (I call her Aeries, even if it may be wrong…):

I choose my characters usually for their character, but I chose Barret for his strength I think rather than the character preference (though he makes me laugh).

After Aeries’ death:

Cloud

Tifa

Felt like old times again, back when we were just AVALANCHE. lol.

Well my first couple times through the game i always seemed to use Barret and Red throughout the whole game but on my one game i actually spent time beating the weapons on i used Tifa and Yuffie.
