The Official Final Fantasy VIII Rumble

I will get this one going again as well. To start with I will just do a miny rumble to see how many people we get participating. Then we can go by popular vote what we want next.

Right Mini Rumble to start with.

Quezacotl, Shiva, Ifrit, Siren, Brothers, Diablos, Carbuncle, Leviathan, Alexander, Bahamut, Caqtuar, Cerebrus, Eden, Tonberry, Doomtrain, Phoenix and Chocobo.

1st up.

Shiva- The Ice Queen, she looks stunning as always. She appears from within a block of ice and freezes the enemies in a very graceful way, As is expected from her.

Cerebrus- Hades Dog the Guardian to the gates of hell, somehow makes its may in to FFVIII and becomes one of your trusty GFs. Granting you the effects of both double and triple.

I know everyone has there own policies on if the rumble manager should vote or not but I always have so Shiva

Anyway, Cerberus is by far the more powerful and more interesting, both for the abilities it grants and what it casts.

Oh, and there are seventeen GFs listed — how is that going to be resolved?

Siren- The only other female Contender we have in this rumble. Lets see if her long blonde hair and the pretty harp she plays will silence the votes for the opposition just like it does her opponants when she uses it against them.

Ifrit- This is one of our longest standing GFs, His appearance has been often in previous games but looks similar in them all. His attack Hell fire Variates from game to game, In this game his Hellfire attack sees him thrown in to the Sky Atop a meteor and then sends it crashing down to earth.

So who will win, The fiery red-head or the silent Blonde?

Siren Because her Silence Ability had saved my life a few times.

Siren. Never used it in battle, but

1. I don’t wanna vote for a redundant one like Shiva or Ifrit.

Tonberry – The littlest GF in the game, Takes a while bless him to get to where he is going but packs quite a punch with that knife of his when he gets there. He is little and green and wears what appears to be a potato sack as a jacket.

DoomTrain The Most ugliest train I have ever seen in this world, He appears from some other land Does not have the decency to stop to allow people on then even runs your enemies over, (Oh wait thats a good thing) He also can inflict heavy status effects on the enemies making up for his lack of attack power.

Tonberry Sympathy vote from me cause of the potato sack Jacket.

If you’re voting on abilities wouldn’t it be Tonberry? What does Doomtrain have besides Junk Shop. Tonberry has Call Shop, LV up, AND LV Down… hmm

But anyway I vote Doomtrain. Used it more and Tonberry pissed me off getting it.

He tried and he had a lot of support but Tonberry just walked to slow to make it to the next round, But Doomtrain steams on through.

Caqtuar – Now this prickly little fiend is a bugger to kill but a friend who you can always be grateful to have on your side, His 1000 Neddles attack is variable depending on your level. But has the amazing perk of going through all defences regardless of if its at the highest stat or the lowest. Plus he is a lil cutie 🙂

Diablos – This creature of the night is the easiest but also one of the hardest to gain. As he comes in a magical lamp which you just have to rub, After that though a nice battle follows and if you are not prepared he can walk all over you. His attack is a more powerful form of Demi but with the ability to kill. Nice visual effects though.

As I have a long loving of caqtuars I will have to vote for caqtuar

Diablos was good, but not good when some of the enemies are immune to Demi.

So my vote goes to Diablos.

Favorite summon/GF animation, consistently useful, and one of the best FF battles.

Yeah he really did take a whipping and a kicking as well. So we say goodbye to our lil green friend the Caqtuar and congratulate the bigger and uglier Diablos.

Time to decide who else will be Joining Diablos in the next round and Caqtuar on the shitpile.

Leviathan A Big Sea Snakey, Who manages to create a giant wall of rock which he then slithers up and turns himself in to a vast amount of water washing away all the trash that stands against you.

Quezacotl- This bird? thunder entity? Well whatever the hell it is, This creature joins you right at the start, And appears out of the sky with a great flash of lightning, Encases himself in a bit of lightning then electrifies your opponants giving them a bit of a shock 😉

Leviathan for me was personally one of the best GF’s that were on offer in FFVIII so I will cheer on the big Sea Snakey.

Purely based on it’s design I think it’s much better.

In this instance it would appear that as Knegative so rightly said Electric type pwns Water type and Quezacotl goes through leaving Leviathan shocked and beaten.

Next up we have

Carbuncle – This lil cutie pops out the ground and using his pretty lil ruby on his/her? forehead grants your party a ruby light protection giving them all the Reflect ability. Thankfully this lil beauty never goes in to battle against the enemy would be a shame to see it get hurt 🙂

Pandemonia – The Gf who I kept secret till now, I wouldn know how to describe this gf with words, Its attack fucntions like a giant Dyson sucking up your enemies, holding them there for a few seconds then shooting them back out in the form of a tornado. After the tornado stops they come crashing back to earth.

Carbuncle gets my vote for character design and plus the fact I never summon Pandemonia as he quite annoys me and looks awful.

If I remember right it’s one of the few GFs which can learn the Spd+20/40% abilities, which were useful to me.

The other one had a messy character design imo. Never used it.

I think because the castle lost in time in FFIX is called Pandemonium, hence the confusion.

@Pandemona/Pandemonia-name discussion: I think it has to do with the Greek word "Pandemonium" (meaning evil spirit, devil, and so on). ^^
It is the name of the capital of hell, normally… or a region in hell.

Well now this is a pickle we have a tie. Well in this case I am going to make it more interesting, I am going to pick one person at Random to cast the deciding vote, I am going to use good ole fashioned names in a hat and the one that got drawn was… Mr Knegative so the deciding vote is down to him. Will he keep with Carbuncle or Change to Pandemonia we shall see, He will be Pm’ed and once I receive his reply I will update as needed.

Also with the name problems its my fault. I used to have to major dyslexia and it still comes through from time to time, I always have spoken Pandemona as Pandemonia hence the spelling mistake. Did not mean to cause so much uproar just sorta go with it if I do something like that again sorry.

Right that meeting was a lot quicker then expected.

Here we go.

Brothers – This gruesome twosome are always good for a chuckle. Given that the bigger is whipped by the much smaller of the two. The attack Brotherly Love is a bit of a misleading name, They engage in agame of Rock Paper Scissors which the bigger always loses, and ends up being hurled towards the enemy in midair causing them to fall back to the ground in a shower of rubble. Always good for a chuckle.

Chocobo – Not a Gf that appears on your Menu but one that is always there to help (Once you have caught yourself a Chocobo of course) His attack Choco Fire is not the most powerful of attacks but can help out in a Jam. Plus the fact its a chocobo which alone gains it a lot of liking.

Brothers is gonna be my choice in this battle, simply because it always makes me smile to watch the two of them "fight it out" in rock Paper Scissors.

So, Brothers.

Just for the fact that the area in which you find them has some of the best music to grace Final Fantasy. "Find your way" ftw!

Just use a "Gysahl Greens" in battle and that’s all Choco really is.

So next up we find

Eden – The "ultimate" Gf its attack lasts long enough for you to go make a cup of tea, Walk the dog, Have a wank etc etc whichever you prefer to do during that time, But does cause massive amounts of damage.

Bahamut – The dragon Gf recurring in at least 5 games. Everyone knows Bahamut and therefore needs no explanation at all.

This should be an interesting one, Power vs Loyalty I guess.

I am going to be Loyal and say Bahamut Simply because Eden is a waste of time and I never use it.

Abilities: Eden has luck+50, spd-j and darkside which makes magic feel useless waste of real time, Bahamut has amazing str+60 and mag+60 and abilityx4, but also ‘rare item’.

Respects: Bahamut is King of dragons, while Eden is like god of GFs and it’s eternity outranks Bahamut’s.

Eden wins for me.

I never bothered using GFs to actually do damage. I usually don’t even have the GF command equipped unless someone is equipped with Cerberus. So I have to go with Bahamut for it’s abilities and the fight to recruit him was fun for me. A lot more challenging than using "draw" to get Eden.

Is there really any competition? Eden was absolutely terrible.

Well, Eden is too mysterious to even be known, so FF8 scientists don’t have a name for it. That doesn’t overrule the "racism" comment, which is there for fun anyway, so don’t take it to seriously.

It being a garden (maybe an ancient one since it’s found in ultra old ultima weapon in place waaaaaay old. Hmmm, Centra…Cetra?…maybe a ex-garden for semi-gods or top civilization on super smart autopilot or mind of it’s own?) makes me love Eden. Bahamut wins this one easily.

I know I have said it once, But please dont make conversation in here makes it far to difficult to trawl through all the useless posts. What Avatars or RE4 has to do with a FFVIII rumble is beyond me but just dont do it again please guys and gals.

Alexander – This Giant robotic GF appears from under the ground looking all very unholy, Opens up two giant barrage cannons on this shoulders and releases a large amount of holy torpedos aimed at the enemies.

Phoenix – One gf who needs no intros I think, Summoned using a Phoenix Pinion.

Alexander I quite like his attacks and plus I dont recall ever using Phoenix once on FFVIII

You only "use" him once and then he uses himself. Phoenix wins for me considering how many times it saved my ass. Plus I like how in THIS game Phoenix controls itself while in other games you have to actually summon it. Ick.

Alexander may have conquered the known world in his day, but he’s still lame.

Right as this is a mini rumble im shortening things down a bit.

The next three battles are going to be 1 vs 1 vs 1, You pick the two you want to go through and the one with the least number of votes goes out at the end of the round.

Siren – The blond goddess of the sea, Who has the odd tendency to kill one or two people.

Doomtrain was a terrible GF. No wonder it was a bitch to get, they probably wanted to keep it’s lackluster design hidden from view at all costs.

Im going to randomly pair up the Gfs. Then when I have three teams of two they will all go against each other and I would like you to pick your 2 favorite teams.

These two teams will then go in to a tag match against each other, with the winning team then going head to head to determine a winner. Just go with me and see if it pans out.

Two balanced teams one team which is pretty much assured a win going by previous votes but we shall see.

I totally agree with Moonlapse Vertigo. Bahamut you get towards the end where as Quezacotl helps you through the whole game.

It was probably over three years ago because I don’t remember it and they probably didn’t do the whole OST anyway. I insist on just a normal one. Sorry.

I suggest Noteable NPCs.

How about the most annoying character? (Not necessarily playable one.) Or the element in the game that fits least.

Oh, I know!!! The best movie of ff8. The nominees are:
– Quistis kills mechanic spider
– Rinoa sees a ring in her space suit.
– The lunar cry
– Edea smells her hands
– starting movie (or maybe rather not because it is too long and it is unfair)
etc.

I suggest other people here suggest more movies so the ‘rumble admin’ has enough too choose from (so he/she can make the fight less predictable).

I don’t know why but it’s funny you should say that, for some reason I imagined that I’d be the only one wanting that to happen, right now at least. I figured the Machine Gun or Eyes on Me or Ami or Premonition or LF would all be fair competition to it (among the community I mean, among myself The Extreme would kill them all of course).

But anyway assuming music does go through I’m looking forward to seeing other shriners’ taste in Uematsu stuff. If it were up to me, the final would be "Residents" VS "The Extreme" (I’m actually serious) and I doubt I’d find anyone else thinking that but you never know. I wish I didn’t miss the previous music rumbles, because FFVIII is my favorite soundtrack.

Oh, as for the idea of an FMV rumble, that’s easy enough. There are FMV pics with titles over at the main FFShrine site. I think "The Landing" won that one also the last time this was done.

Belhelmel – What looks like an Indian with a giant Buzzsaw on his back, He can slice you, Has the ability to use Thunder, Ice and fire Magic. Becomes more aggressive when he turns angry, When Angry he also counters attacks with his counter slice.

Slapper – I wonder how many people actually know what these are without reading the description. These are the Ice hockey dudes who attack you in G-Garden when you board it, they attack in different formations and choose to either slap you with their sticks, Or blast Blizzara/Blizzaga at you.

Vysage – This guy needs no introductions as im sure he has caused us all problems at one time or another, He is the Mummy head protruding from the floor, Usually comes with Lefty and Righty, Has some semi powerful attacks, Prefers to attack through status chaging then direct attacks.

Cactuar – Everyones loveable friend the Cactuar, Have classed him as a difficult monster as they are damn near impossible to hit and can cause you quite a bit of grief if they choose to, 1000 Needles. Need I say anymore?

In the small Category we have

Buel – This looks like a three winged bat, Except its wings rotate around it instead of flapping, It has basic magical abilities depending on the level, First encountered in Ifrits fire cavern.

Grats Found in the Balamb Garden Training Centre, These plant like creates have long tendrils and the head of a Venus fly catcher, They have the power to put you to sleep and to use vampiric touch.

And the Big guys

Marlboro – Bad Breath enough said.

Behemoth – This big purple monstrosity can be a bit of a pain, Likes to cast barriers on itself along with dealing some powerful physical damage and also using the odd blast of Meteor when it takes its fancy.

Right, The big battle should be interesting indeed.

Buel and Behemoth for me as Marlboros should be erased from existance.

I like both Buel and Grat, but It’s more fun to kill a Grat than a Buel, although Buel gets to cast death later, which is quite refreshing.

Hmmm…Malboro, because it shows what kind of breath smokers have. And it takes much more preparation for a Malboro than for a Behemoth and I LOVE to make occasional changes to the party with the junction system.

For the small… meh, Buels have a more useful card to mod or play.

The second battle is even harder because I love both of the opponents a lot, but I think I’ll go with Behemoth, because he simply looks a bit more stylish than Marlboro.

Right next up we have,

Little Monsters

Geezard – This monsters appears to be half a crocodile and half a snake? Simple monster never has ever put up a fight but provides screws whenever needed.

Mesmerize – This horse like creature has a horn which it happily uses as a weapon until it breaks off, The horn itself contains a lot of medicinal propeties.

Large Monsters

Bomb – These flame monsters can cause a lot of damage, They can be attacked three times, Then after that they slef destruct causing a lot of damage to whoever hit them last.

Iron Giants – These big blue monsters have a giant sword and amazing physical defense, Which they like to boost even more by using Mighty guard. Have a very bad resistance to Demi magic.

My choices for this battle are Mesmerize and Iron Giants

Mesmerize were fun because I loved getting their horns and Bombs sucked so I went with IG

Small Monster

Fastitocalon – F – When you first encounter this monster it appears as a fin underneath the sand, But after a few hits it emerges to look like a deformed mini phoenix bird. They provide decent Ap though and a fair amount of water Crystals

G-Soldier – These pests are everywhere and have a few forms, But they are mainly bog standard cannon fodder, Have magical abilities along with the old hack and slash abilities, Sadly not much else can be said for these poor bastards.

Big Guys

Ochu – A large overgrown plant, With two razor sharp claws and a giant mouth to boot, This rather annoying critter has the ability to drink your stocked magic, Along with slowing and cursing you, Can also create earthquakes, Sometimes even decides to poison you if its feeling particularly mean.

Blue Dragon – This demi dragon can be a tricky enemy if its not handled right, Has a few mean magical spells at its disposal along with a couple of lethal attacks, But if you manage to blind him he becomes a push over, Can provide you with Fury Fragments which are needed for weapons though.

Fastitocalon – F and Ochu for me, Blue Dragons were made far to easily.

I actually liked the Galbadians.

Ochu was annoying because of slow and sleep.
G-soldiers…can’t card…must petrify.

Next up we have

Caterchipillar – These giant caterpillars are green witrh blue spots, They either bite you, Blast you with a shot of thunder, Or use Sound waves which Quistis can learn as a blue magic.

Red Bat- Umm not much good can be said about these sadly, I have been trying to think of something for about 10 mins and am stumped, All I could think of was, One hit kills 🙂

Big Guys

Hexadragon – This dragon is almost pure black in colour and has many eyes, Deals pretty lethal damage with its claws and tail, Also has a breath attack (Not the most powerful out them all) and also has access to magic.

Vs

Elnoyle- These are the weaker forms of Elvorettes which you kill in dollet tower, They are a fan of status magic, Along with using their claws for good physical damage, They also employ storm breth to throw a few status effects on you as well, But they also provide you with Energy crystals when you kill them (Mug also works)

In the little guys Im gonna go for the sympathy vote and say Red Bat and in the big guys I gotta say Elnoyles simply because its an unlimited supply of Energy crystals..

Redbats, I think, are a source of Drain magic as you level up.

Right we have a tie, So I will do what I chose to do before and PM someone, This time we have Ketevan (Enya) making the choice.

Thrustaevis – This big blue bird has a skull for a head??? It has 2 physical attacks along with the magic Aero.

Glacial Eye – This blue floating eye is made of ice (I assume) and appears to be attached only to a spine. It has only ever used physical attacks on me.

Tonberry – This lil fella needs no explanation. All I say is everybodys grudge.

T-Rexaur for the start of the game is a huge monster, Easily subdued with status effects though, But if not stoped can easily wipe out a higher level party as welll.

I can confirm this, but only in memory. I don’t remember the attack title but it does cause petrification though it often misses.

Elastoid – This crazy looking plantpot with legs that hovers, Is first encountered by Laguna and Co. IT has the ability to land on you and bash you with its pot, and also has a lazer attack that hurts all three of you.

Funguar – The devil mushroom himself, Has the fire and sleep spells, and can also use an attack similar to Quistis’s lazer eye.

Propergator – These guys everyone should know, They are the dudes you meet on the ragnarok pretty easy once you know the way to kill them, Took me a while to figure it out.

Torama – These cat like creatures go by the name coeurl usually as far as I remember, They have the blaster ability along with some pretty powerful magic.

Right im gonna vote for Funguar as I love the noise they make when they die, and Torama as I hate the Propergators.

Next up we have

Elastiod- This crazy plat pot thing with legs that can float, is seen mainly by Laguna and Co, Can attack you physically and can also shoot a lazer ability to hurt you all.

Funguar- The devil mushroom itself, Can use Fire + Sleep magic along with a laser attack similar to Quistis’s Laser Eye.

Big guys

Propergator – These guys are found on the Ragnarok, They are pretty much unkillable until you figure out the right way to kill them then they become quite easy.

Torama – These cats are usually called Coeurls afaik, They have the blaster ability along with some pretty strong magical attacks, They like to hang out in Esthar mainly.

Esthar Soldier – These multi-coloured soldiers are the enemy of Laguna and Co during the flashbacks you never really encounter them as Squall. They can shoot you with their weapons, Slash you with them and can also reduce your hp to one.

Creeps These lovely black shadows look like ghosties and have 4 attacks, Heartbreak, Electrocute, Thunder and their slash. Encountered in the sewers underneath Deiling with Quistis, Selphie + Zell

Big guys

Ruby Dragon – These lovely Red coloured dragon employ one attacck which im sure everyone despises, Breath, Along with some heavily powerful physical attacks and some pretty harsh magic.

Chimera – This mismash of creatures can be problematic as it can absorb a lot of elements. Can also pull of some pretty powerful things, Does drop items to allow quistis to learn Aqua breath though.

Right im gonna go for Creeps gotta love a ghostie and Chimera as they were well designed I thought.
