Yes, John, that is what I think… Cloud’s okay (for a spiky-haired protagonist, anyway), but he’s so overrated by his rabid fanboys that it makes me want to hate him, even though he isn’t total crap like a lot of anti-fanboys say.

Let’s just say I take the middle ground on that issue. Still, though, Squall > Cloud. ::shrugs::

From an even remotely literate perspective, Cloud is total crap. Zero personality development and absurd deus ex machina writing are unforgivable by any knowledgable standards. I guess it works for dumb fanboys though.

I voted for Cloud Strife, hands down! I just love his character design too much (hawt). His personality was just okay though.

I know this is a crappy thread in practice, but in theory it’s actually a legitamate thread idea, so here’s my opinion.

I voted for Zidane as despite X being my favourite I was never much of a fan of Tidus. Too much of his character was centred around his relationship with Yuna, and unless you take steps to view certain optional scenes and find out more about his character, his relationships with other characters can be pitifully insignificant.

Cloud and Squall are too poorly developed to be considered, while Vaan is even worse, as he has little relevance to many events in the game other than superficially and was basically thrown in as a playable avatar to keep the teen gamers happy. His relationships with some of FFXII’s characters are even less significant than Tidus’ relationship with some characters in X, he has very little cevelopment beyond the first few hours and in general he doesn’t seem important enough to even be a ‘main’ character.

Zidane isn’t my favourite FF character ever, but he is by far the best main protagonist of the FF games that I have played. He interacts with all the other playable characters on some level, many of them on a significant level, and develops well enough too, as well as being central to the ulimate antagonists’ plans (unless you consider Necron to be the ultimate antagonist, as opposed to Kuja, Garland, etc.).

I think that Cloud has more interesting character besides strength comparison and what not also.

I also agree that Zidane is cool even though I voted for Cloud. Zidane is the most positive protagonist out of the newer FFs. If the poll had multiple votes, I would go with Cloud, Squall, and Zidane.

He seems to be more of the ‘entertainment’ thanks to the man who should have originally been the main character is Balthier a.k.a The Leading Man since he really clarifies it multiple times throughout the story. Vaan, in my opinion would always be on the level of a optional character with little development regardless of how many FFXII sequels are released focusing on him.

I voted for Zidane because of all the above from Vaati and Ceidwad. For a thief, he seems to have a heart of gold and sense of virtue while being heroic in protecting those he cares about. Zidane really does remind me of Zack who wasn’t really that much explained a lot in FFVII and the dreaded FFVII:AC while in the upcoming FFVII:CC really did show how much alike both of them in personalities they are. Both seem to be quite flirty and care for the safety of others while they both do eventually mature a lot through the games as the story progresses.

Cloud is an ok character, but I would have wanted Zack to be the main protagonist for FFVII since he is one of my FFVII characters. He would have been a better leader for sharing some of same good aspects that Zidane has for being a great leader.

Yuna, but not for her X-2 appearance but her character as it was in X.

Well, if a question is asked, I always just answer based on the the options. I assume that the person asking the question wants to know which answer a person likes the best out of the given options, not out of every possible answer.
