The Toy Thread (this should be epic guys)

People could post lists of the toys they’re currently looking for, and if people see stuff on the list in the stores around them, they could try to work something out via sending money for stuff and then shipping it to that person?

Obviously, people aren’t going to be willing to send you money if you’re some person nobody knows, but there are so many toy collectors that I know pretty well here already, so I think we could work something out. 🙂

So would people be up for this? Y/N? If people seem interested, I will get to posting my list. 🙂

I’ve been wondering if a toy thread in itself would be cool for a while. There’s a lot of things I see I like that aren’t Transformers, like that Ninja Turtle figure I posted, but there’s no real place to post that stuff here.

Here’s something Merl and I have noticed and I’m curious if it’s true for other people- our Walmart never seems to have any DC characters when it comes to comic toys. Our Target, which is maybe a one minute drive away from the Walmart, always has plenty of Batman and Superman stuff, and sometimes more. Is this just a weird fluke or does Walmart hate them some DC comics?

The real problem really is that the company just doesn’t pack the cases well. Mattel does that! They ruined the recent He-Man line with their distribution. They packed tons and tons of the random He-Man and Skeletor repaints, and made the individual characters impossible to find. The repaints, Jungle Attack He-Man and Ice-Frenzy Skeletor and all that crap, clogged up the shelves, and the stores couldn’t order any more, and thus sales went down, and the line got cancelled.

Okay I won’t.

Anyways I’m still hoping most of these will show up soon so no one needs to go out and try to get them for me, but if you do pay attention to ponies, I am curious if you have any of these guys in your stores yet. The winter ones are the only ones I really want to find right away, but I think I’m taking the DCIs for the two I need with me next time we go out that way so I can make sure I can get the whole set.

I’ll go look at the mall near my workplace if I have time. I’ll let you know if I see anything. Hasbro stuff are quite easy to find over here.

(Ironically, my workplace is located on the same floor and the same building as that of the local Hasbro office. However, I have never socialized with their staff).

As for me, well, as most people here probably already knows, I collect some Care Bears and Kellytoy Strawberry Shortcake plushes (among many other random toys, mostly plushes). Right now I’m looking for the few remaining 8-inch beanies that I don’t have yet from the New Care Bears line and a Lemon Merengue and Raspberry Torte plush (and a few others) from the Kellytoy Strawberry Shortcake line.

As for the last toys bought, I just finished binging on eBay on some Care Bears cousins.

One more request: If anyone’s going Christmas shopping soon, can they please check if the Nintendo DS game "Strawberry Shortcake: The Four Seasons Cake" is selling at your nearby game shop? I seem to have a bit of problem locating said game online. NCSX cancelled my order because their suppliers are not carrying it and it’s not showing up on eBay. I ended up buying it off YesAsia.

The christmas ponies are already sold out there, but they have the regular ones. Usually I don’t have a problem getting everything from a normal set, it’s the holidays I have trouble with. Every once in awhile a pony escapes me, though (I never found that one sparkly pony I linked you to ages ago).

I wish I was near a Toys R Us! Last time I was there they were selling $3 ponies.

I’ll start looking at the new care bears stuff more, I swear you’re going to make me want to collect those too. =p And I’ll see if I can find the Strawberry Shortcake game.

The Halloween ponies this year weren’t super Halloween-ish, they were just dressed in costumes. The other one isn’t too expensive on ebay though, so hopefully I’ll be able to get her.

$7-9 isn’t bad though considering what some people are paying on eBay for a single carded figure. 20 bucks and more, it’s crazy.

I’m not aware of any version of it where they’re painted differently. There’s a second set called Cobra Legions though where Storm Shadow is painted in his modern Valor Vs. Venom scheme and Cobra Commander is black, plus some different troopers.

The hooded Cobra Commander is single carded. The Destro with a gold head is a single carded San Diego Comic Con exclusive, and there’s the 2nd caped one coming out single carded now.

Most of the ones in the 5 packs are getting released separately as well, for some reason, but most of them are unchanged. So far I don’t think there’s been a single carded Baroness though.

All I know, If they come out with the entire Dreadnoks gang including Zartan’s brother and sister, I’m getting them.

I wish I could’ve gotten that and the Destro SDCC exclusives this year, but I opted for the TF Alternators Rodimus instead!

I also doubt it, but another figure I hope they bring out is the Cobra Snowboarder. That figure was badass!!!
They probably won’t though, seeing as it came at the latter end of the figure run, during the crappy Mortal Kombat series.

The thing I remember most about G.I Joes, was the Mail Order Exclusives. I had all kinds of Exclusives, like Super Trooper, Sgt. Slaughter, and others, including some vehicles.

The last time I went – After Christmas Sale – they only had the Cobra Legions sets for $25 bucks – which I didn’t have. I’ll look though. Also the local Toys R’ Us still has some left. I went there the other day, and they had 1 Shipwreck only. I’ll keep checking there every week – they have a toy shipment coming in on Wednesday. Who knows? I might as well bump this to show all the Legendary Comic Book Heroes Series:

This is the Pitt series which includes: Ripclaw, Witchblade, Super Patriot, Savage Dragon, Madman (Freakazoid is a ripoff of Madman) , and Judge Dread.
Each figure contains an additional piece for a bigger figure – in this case Pitt w/ Timmy.

So far, I have them all except Ripclaw and Judge Dread. Hopefully I’ll find them. If not, I’ll try and find the individual Pitt pieces on Ebay – It’s pretty much why I’m collecting them in the first place.

This is the 2nd line, The Monkeyman series.
This set includes: Star, The Darkness, Stryker, Ann O’Brian, Marv, Madman v2, and Judge Death.

Just like the Pitt series, each figure contains a piece to build Ann’s partner Monkeyman.

I have both Judge Deaths, only ’cause I found them on clearance.
If you look at O’Brian, she closely resembles Jillian Anderson from X-Files.

What sucks is that I like the Monkeyman figures more, but Pitt is one of my favorite characters.

Same. I was never that connected in the community, but no doubt I used to stop by often during my college years a lot just to read up on the articles and have a good laugh. Admittingly, I stop by less now, but when I do, I usually spend quite some time catching up.

I always wondered though if I’m one of the only ones who opens them, but puts them on display on her shelves :p. I don’t intend on selling them anyway. My best friend Angela (she’s 25) does the same thing.

Also I’ve been looking for this Moby Dick Rebecca Chambers action figure from Resident Evil. It’s soooooo rare, I’ve seen it on ebay go up to $300 :eek:!

I was like that too.

My friends and I would snag all kinds of collectables, and when we got home, we would look at our stash and fight the temptation to open them.
One time my friend actually did, and I was like "You’re stupid, you know how much that’s worth".
He’s like: "Hey, it’s not like we’re trying to make a profit with the stuff we collect. We’re fans, and I don’t know about you, but I’m never gonna sell my stuff"!

We always talk about this, and it made me question my reason for collecting stuff.
I started collecting because I was a fan, and I wanted stuff that I thought was cool to have.
As time went on, I met a friend who was a true collector, and after I described my collections, he began telling me that they were worth money, and showed me some price guides. I was in shock, because my stuff was worth about $500 – $600 bucks. This soon turned me from collecting stuff that I like, to collecting stuff that’s worth money – regardless whether I liked it or not.
Finally, I started looking at my collection, and began wondering: "Why the hell do I even have half of this stuff, I don’t even like most of this crap"
So I began trading stuff at conventions.
I’ve traded most of the crap except for the stuff I shelled out a lot of money for.
I’m not gonna let someone get a bargain on me.

Ponies cost $5 a piece. Every once in a while, one will be a little cheaper (Family Dollar ponies are $3), and sometimes they have ponies that come with a bunch of extras that are marked up, but those particular ponies sold for $5 each.

Holiday ponies getting marked up on ebay is nothing new, though. =/

Oh that’s Ashley Graham from RE4. I decided to buy a box of the RE4 mini figure sereis 2 where you don’t know which figure you’re going to get and wouldn’t you know it, I got Ashley Graham ><. I’m glad you like the collection though ^^.

Good quality plushies can really last. I have a plush dog from when I’m born (which is roughly 26 years ago), and it’s still mostly solid (except that it’s been practically ripped apart and put together again a few times in it’s life, and it’s cotton stuffings has become very stiff).

They really do. I still have the Care Bear collection that my mother started for me when I was born. Most of them are over twenty years old but are still in perfect condition. The only one that shows any real signs of aging is my Bright Heart doll. I loved that freakin’ raccoon…

I also used to have an impressive collection of Pound Puppies. I have no idea what happened to them though. :\

My "babies" (computers) on the east corner of my room. Pretty much most of them are hand-me-downs upgraded like mad and/or had been my main machine at one point in time.

A majority of my Care Bears stuff fits into these two cubbyholes in my new cupboard.

Top hole holds the first 10 Care Bears (2004 Play Along Toys reissue however, 5 talking and 5 non-talking), all 3 2007-reissued sing-along pals, a smart check-up Tenderheart and a Share-A-Story Share Bear.

Second hole holds all 15 (according to Play-Along Toys’ collectors list) 2007-reissued bears in beanie forms, and 6 cousins (Loyal Heart Dog, Proud Heart Cat, Gentle Heart Lamb, Brave Heart Lion, Lotsa Heart Elephant and Swiftheart Rabbit) in various sizes (Loyal Heart, Proud Heart, Brave Heart and Lotsa Heart are 13", Gentle Heart is 10" and Swift Heart is 8").

Strawberryland! I have beanies of most of the characters (made by Kellytoy) and their pets (made by Ban-Dai), 13" Custard and Pupcake plushes (both by Kellytoy), two talking Strawberries (by Ban-Dai), a talking voice-recognition enabled Apple-Dumplin (by Ban-Dai), Honey Pie, Orange Twist and Milkshake fillies (by Kellytoy), and a talking Spot the Dog plush by Kids Gift thrown in for good measure.

The main space of the cupboard is occupied by various ride-on toys (including a talking and singing Lumpy the Heffalump rocker without the rocking base buried somewhere inside), a Squawkers Macaw, A large Spot plush, the Sing and Dance Pinkie Pie, a large plush Clifford that barks.

The Aero-RAMChYLD Imperial. Picked it up cheap, but the music box has been changed from the Spot one to a generic one that plays "Where oh where has my little dog gone".

A Furreal Friends Butterscotch Pony. Because I can’t resist a large robotic pony that I can ride on. Too bad it’s legs can’t really move tho.

So…since my parents went to their usual party spot for the weekend; Wendover (or as we call it "Poor man’s Las Vegas") I decided to do some detective work. I went upstairs into the crawlspace and upon initial inspection I was apalled to find my Dragon Maleficent plushdoll ontop of a crudely packed gateway box, with no protection from heat, or water-damage at all.

I was a little miffed since that thing cost me like $30-50 at the Disney toy store at Disneyland. Luckily though the most damage was dust spots, some hairs, and nothing too serious.

Also during my inspection I came across my old VR-Troopers canine plushie pal "Jeb", who says things like "Atta boy", and "Virtual Reality is cool." I got him at a KB Toys in California (I swear that’s where all of the rarest toys are found :()

Lastly, aside from a large collection of closet bunnies (that looked like roadkill from years of cramped boxed contortion and neglect) I came across these!

My Nintendo Promotional beanies that Babages (Now Gamestop) was selling for a while back in ’98 or ’99 (either a Smash Brothers or N-64 promotion idk). I think I have them all unless they came out with a Luigi or a Toad plushie (but honestly, who cares about Luigi anyway?)

Going through the box of stuffed animals really brought back a shitload of memories. I remember now that I had a pretty big bunny collection, which is even bigger now (with the inclusion of my Skelanimals :)). I really hate it when parents take it on their own to go and box all your shit up and throw it away in a dark corner in an attic somewhere only to be neglected, and eventually forgotten about for decades (which is what happened to my stuff :().

Maybe it’s just me but I find those Skelanimals plushies to be fuckin adorable. Whenever I go to Hot Topic at the mall they always seem to introduce a new skelanimal pal (last time it was either a cat or a monkey). This last X-mas really sucked shopping wise, because I had to choose between Shadow-Jack, or a set of Skelanimals tree ornaments. I’m glad I went with Shadow Jack, you can’t hug a tree ornament when you’re feeling like an emofag :love:

Mighty Muggs are also pretty much the cutest things ever and I really want some. ; ; If I see Wolverine or Lando in stores, I am pretty much grabbing them on site. ^^

I am pretty disapointed with the regular Dark Knight movie figures, but there is some other Batverse stuff coming out I am pretty psyched about.

You can get the Lanterns bookends on Amazon, but they are not very reasonably priced. $200+ dollars is so far beyond what I am comfortable spending on something that will not have much of a purpose outside of looking awesome in my home.

I just found the Booster Gold and Blue Beetle figures at Target this afternoon. The Booster Gold was the modern version rather than the classic one 🙁

Final product turned out pretty much the same, all the paint just won’t be as crisp, of course. Don’t have much to complain about with mine though.

The Comedian toy looks perfectly cool to me, articulation be damned.

His original costume tied in better to his Alexander theme, and also went with the character’s complete self-confidence. and it just looked fucking wicked. Then again I don’t think Matthew Goode had the body to fill out the leotard quite so well.

I don’t care about articulation all that much either. Adrian just stands on my desk and watches me study (and other things :-*)

Lat time I was at walmart 2 of each of that set was there. Got a Joker who has a Great golden/silver age face sculpt. As for the accessories he comes with a mallet with a Pinocchio joker face on it (the handle is his nose) a deck of cards that surprisingly fits in his right hand rather well, a joker fish, & a cane with joker motif.

The real downside is his articulation everythings what you’d hope for and expect but his hip joints are hindered by his pelvis sculpt, the legs don’t move as smoothly as they should, he can do the splits easily like how they have in in the package but to get him sitting it feels like he might break ad to that his waist doesn’t really turn that well if it even is meant to move at all. And finally his left wrist Can turn but you’ll need to give it some coaxing because the sculpt of the sleeve is very tight.

I don’t know were the head came from but I think they may have used those new ranger figs for the custom.

There’s a recent line called SUPER LEGENDS for Power Rangers that had stylized action figure versions of various zords, that’s where the head to that goofy custom came from.

I’d say the Voltron>Power Rangers argument could be validated in that yes, it came to English speaking audiences earlier and was indeed successful, proving those kind of shows do have an audience outside of Japan. I doubt it was a direct inspiration to pull the trigger on the Sentai rebranding though. I’d love Sam Raimi forever if he did Spiderman 4 as the sentai series. He could have Madame Web from the fox kids toon give him the morpher and mech and have him battle a giant Carnage. Kingpen could make him grow with his cane that has the gem of Cyttorak in it.

I’ve re-named the Ice Cream Twins Ben & Jerry, and I didn’t have time to transform them because These are my own pictures that I took as a test for my new camera. It was an Insignia 10.0-Megapixel Digital Camera Model: NS-DSC10B and with the exception of these few hardly any of the other pics turned out acceptable. First and foremost the zoom just wouldn’t focus properly, the buttons would only respond half the time it took sometimes as long as 7 secs between pics, Macro on/off & face target on/off are the only options, and it ran on 2 AA batteries which would last for about an hour.

I returned it with on fuss and now have $50 to put into a new camera, I’m used to my sister’s Nikon Coolpix so I’m thinking of something like that but I’m willing to try a different brand. Any suggestions?

For the ones I took first I used the settings:
} 3 lamps with regular compact fluorescent light bulbs / 1 coming from each side & the 3rd overhead
} Scene / Close Up

You can tell because they???re slightly more yellowish and in the case of the ones taken in front of the plain white background a little flat looking.

With some experimenting I???ve found what I think are the best settings for these types of photos:
} 2 of the same lamps as before but now they have daylight spectrum bulbs
} Program setting
} Flash off
} Macro on
} iso set to 100
} The rest of the settings are either off or set to default

Saw that one at Walmart and it didn’t have the flippers but the color and paint job is very garish.

Another thing I saw was that there’s a not as girly section in the barbie isle, They had Bond girls Honey Rider, Pussy Galore, & Halley Berry as well as some more grown up dolls in black dresses that aren’t slutty plus it looked like there were quite a few skin color variants to choose from.

But the msot awesome thing is the Ladies of the 80s with Cindi Laurper, Blonde & Jone Jett.

Remi likes his cherie as anime.

I remember the Toybiz version of that. Huge as a hulk and heavy enough that if you threw it you’d be able to hurt somebody easy.

It looks like they have those dumb hip joints that go up into the torso instead of out from the pelvis. Is it really more expensive to have them come out of the crotch? At Least the paint jobs look above average for a mass produced Hasbro toy and the suitcase one has multiple hands with what looks like very long and sturdy pegs.

Why didn’t we buy more toybiz marvel guys when they were under $8 and came with a display base and comic book?

Right now my big toy plan is to get as many Booster Gold and Blue Beetle figures as I can (sadly, there aren’t that many), and then put them all on a shelf with the mini-mate Martian Manhunter standing on an oreo with his arms raised in the air in the center. I will imagine that he is crying to the heavens.

It would also be neat to build the JLI but there are a few characters I’m pretty sure don’t have figures. 🙁

I still see the DCUC Booster Gold and Blue Beetle sometimes at Target. Sadly though the price has gone up to 15 each, and apparently, it’s going to go up to 20 in September. That’s kind of fucking ridiculous. Mattel is great at pissing off collectors.

Incidentally, I feel that The Incredibles is the one Pixar movie that warrants a sequel. I doubt they’ll ever make it, but I’d love it if they did.

Well, Hasbro still does make large stuff. I mean, extra large Dora the Explorer doll, Furreal Friends Butterscotch Pony… There is still a possibility there.

And yeah I don’t follow Star Wars so much anymore but I recall seeing some of the larger vehicles at clearance, but that doesn’t indicate much. People that use their personal sightings as a barometer for how toys are doing at large are a bit silly.

The worse one is the life sized Elvis head that sings and moves. Walmart had it at the subway side entrance and it was very disturbing.

He was in the second wave of the line in 08 or so and later put in one of the re-release waves. I bought that one since I never found the first one, it’s a pretty good figure.

Firestorm was part of the Super Powers line in the 80s! So many memories. I had the Hall of Justice playset/carrying case 😀

At this point, a vast majority of that line has a corresponding figure in DCUC. They even accounted for the different Parademon and Steppenwolf designs with their variants, very cool.

The black/grey Batman from DCUC is my favorite, followed by the all black one. The Public Enemies one exclusive to Target looks awesome too, but for some reason, that line uses bigger bodies than the regular figures, so he ends up kind of out of place.

I sadly don’t have any of them 🙁

Mandi, there’s a guy who posted his Legion of Doom display that he’s been building on 4 chan a while ago. He said he was doing it just to have the Brainiac wanting pants scene and so far almost all the characters that are in the commercial have been made.

I think that they look pretty rad, but I hate that they aren’t going to be sold individually. The set is way too Batman-heavy for me to want the whole thing. If they do wind up being sold individually at an okay price I’ll probably try and get that Batman in the back though.

Hasbro won back the license from Playmates in 2008 and proceeded to complete the raping of the series that Playmates started, and then rape it twice over after that for good measure. Still, for some reason I still collect the dolls despite noting that the new Strawberry Shortcake talks like a slut in the new movie, no longer believes in the ideology that won me over in 2003, and doesn’t look as nice as the 2003 counterpart in my eyes..

The thing about ICMG is that he’s right there front center frame and if like me, you never had an Ice Cream Maker it’s kinda weird that of all things to be fleeing with you’d pick that thing and not a suit case of full of useful stuff like clothes, weapons, & other personal possessions. Also his figure looks like auto mechanic Sammy Davis Jr. with a paunch so he adds a celebrity likeness, diverse skin color, & a working man’s job to your child’s universe.

I think it’s just the armors I’ve seen around. And even if they did the people out of armor Pepper being a girl wouldn’t get made most likely.

The Y.M.C.A. took some time to decide which figure would do what letter, Rorscach would oviously be Y and Sniktbub wouldn’t do A or C as well as Spider-man and Surfer has non posing fingers so Spidy got the flat A.

If you’re talking about the dancing Joker pose that’s 1 that he can pull of with ease but whever I move him in even the simplest poses a bunch of paint and plastic always flakes off form somewhere.

Raven looks nice but I know the ones in stores will look worse, the females always do. I especially hate how they put the cut joints on the thighs. Prototypes never have ’em, then in the store – huge ugly gaps.

The Jack Knight Starman figure looks fantastic, I think I’m going to try and go after him. I love J’onn but I like other figures of him better than this one. Sinestro Corps Batsy is kinda tempting but I don’t think I’ll grab him.

The Arkham Asylum figures look really nice but Harley’s redesign still bugs me. 🙁 I’m such a nerd.

I’ve watched the Masters of the Universe drama unfold from afar, and unless they decide to actually meet demands and update the online ordering, I’m sure it’ll be a hair-pulling affair trying to get one of these things.

There is pretty much no way I’m not going to get me some High Seas Batman.

But yeah, it is pretty awesome. When you first saw Bruce back in caveman times in Final Crisis I really wanted to see him off fighting dinos with an actual bat on his chest, but I figured it would never happened. I freaked out when the art for this stuff started to come out.

The Bruce Wayne time adventures seem like they’re going to take a backseat in the actual going ons of the ROBW but they’ve been neat thus far. I am more into the other part of the story though.If the words HYPER FAUNA don’t get you interested in reading it then I don’t know what to do~

But yeah, it is pretty awesome. When you first saw Bruce back in caveman times in Final Crisis I really wanted to see him off fighting dinos with an actual bat on his chest, but I figured it would never happened. I freaked out when the art for this stuff started to come out.

The Bruce Wayne time adventures seem like they’re going to take a backseat in the actual going ons of the ROBW but they’ve been neat thus far. I am more into the other part of the story though.If the words HYPER FAUNA don’t get you interested in reading it then I don’t know what to do~

It’s like TMNT In Time but with Batman. i hope for the neon Nightriders & Starbase, Where No Batman Has Gone Before parts Bruce gets to pilot the Deathscythe Hell Custom and fight the Joker who’s in a Mass Production Eva Unit.

It’s going to be sheer hell getting one. MattyCollector will have them online after the convention, but it will probably sell out within minutes. They absolutely suck at making enough toys, and the site is apparently prone to troubles – "I had it in my cart, I hit confirm, the site went down, I reloaded and now it’s sold out and the order didn’t process" troubles. I’ve watched the Masters of the Universe drama unfold from afar, and unless they decide to actually meet demands and update the online ordering, I’m sure it’ll be a hair-pulling affair trying to get one of these things.

I wonder if my old friend from LA that helped me get the 07 MLP exclusive is going still. I’d kinda hate to ask him to pick up stuff for me though, I haven’t seen him since 2006 lawl 🙁

I found out yesterday at Memorial Day festivities that a friend of a friend of mine is going, and I’m going to see if they’d be willing to pick one up for me if I gave them the money. Do you want me to see if they could get two? I don’t really know them so I don’t know if they are after this guy themselves but it couldn’t hurt to ask.

also NERD RAGE I guess but The Return of Bruce Wayne really is a pretty solid story thus far. Grant Morrison’s my favorite comic writer, and I trust him.
