This may be a little old.

Discuss.

Doesn’t look remotely credible.

I agree, since El Reg has been known to source stories from the least reputable sources available (i.e. ananova), but some of their stories do carry weight. This one, however, sounds a bit too far-fetched. Dropping the GBA port? Imo that’s wrong, since there’s quite a number of legitimate uses to it other than for legacy GBA gaming support (i.e. rumble pak, RAM pak, camera pak, and some games uses it as a transfer slot or a expansion pack slot).

But what if they’re just trying to follow the leader in an effort to cut costs, i.e. Sony’s recent move to put out a PS3 that can’t play legacy PS2 and PSOne games?

Not likely. Nintendo makes a considerable profit on everything they make, and factoring how well the DS is selling, there’s absolutely no reason at all for them to cut corners with it.

Yes, dual slotting is where it is at.

This idea sounds pretty weak, the DS lite is fine the way it is.

If anything, it’ll be like the GBA micro and no one will care.

Going from DS to DS light seemed like a big enough improvement for me. Why make the DS lite even better. Besides, my regular DS works just fine, I don’t even need anything better.

There’s no need to be honest. The fact that you could play GBA games on the DS was a major fact in purchasing mine.
