I think most people will want them. We get fussy over whether or not a soundtrack is complete.:-P There’s no rush though.=)

Why are people still encoding mp3s at 128kbps when that was the standard like ten years ago? Nowadays you should be encoding at nothing less than 192kbps, but VBR is recommended. It’s not like we’re still using Windoze 98, 5GB hard drives, and 14.4 baud modems. Speed and storage is no longer a problem. Quality is everything.

Take your 44khz wavs (sadly it won’t support 48khz) and use EAC to encode them to MP3 using LAME. If you want your mp3s tagged, you can then use a nice piece of software called MP3tag.

Thanks for the help, but I???m able to rip the OST in 192k quality, and I have 13 Mario Galaxy tracks ripped again now. I???m ripping some missing songs, so stay alert at the forum, maybe tomorrow I will post a new thread with the "new" Mario Galaxy OST in 192k and with a few missing tracks (I have ripped a boss theme with no sound effects^^)

You can use Winrar indefinitely even if your 40 day trial runs out. It just nags you to buy it every time you open a RAR.

Ops, Melty molten galaxy is Dreagnought galaxy, a mistake in the track list. Melty molten is in position 56. There???s a Planetarium version missing yet. Don???t know the problem with the stereo or mono. I???m listening the ripping in stereo mode at home, but if you say is in mono, jut don???t downoad the OST and wait for other rippers or the official OST. I can???t do nothing more…sorry

In my opinion it’s just as good as rapidshare (up-/download speed wise). It also has a 250 MB limit afair.

These are still not in proper stereo though… You can tell the difference when compared to silentscience’s rip.
Your stereo uses the same signal for both left and right channel so it’s actually mono outputted through stereo.

To read his replyes, makes me think that ripping Mario Galaxy???s OST and uploading here, have been a time waist… but at the same time, I???m glad to see so much people thanking for the OST.
I???ve ripped the OST for me, to have the music of an awesome game allways at hand. I know there???s a lot of people who loves the music of that game, thats why decided to upload it here (Like:RE Umbrella Chronicles or The Darkness OSTs), and I know too that my OST it hasn???t the best quality in the world.
If people think there???s no enough quality, cause is in mono or wathever, hey, no problem to me, I???m agree, and it???s easy… just search another rip in better quality, right? 😉 It???s nice to read people???s comments, sugestions and requests, but there???s no need to "atack" me like Xeiros do I think

Hi again :). I see you’re still having trouble ripping to proper stereo. The problem most likely is the method you’re using to record the wav’s to. When you’re making the original recording you’re either recording to a mono file. Or it could stem from whatever settings you have for your hardware/software.

I was thinking, since you’re having problems with getting good audio quality. It???s a great idea, If you need some help finding good spots on the levels. I???ve been investigating a lot to find them.
About the problems betwen mono and stereo… I???m working with a portable PC. When I rip the audio I run the left and right rca jacks from the Wii, to the the SPDIF input on the portable PC. Maybe it should be the problem with mono?
About ripping without souds, First of all is finding a good place, obviously. In some levels you have to put the first person view and aim to the correct direction… in other levels, you have to bend Mario holding the button since you finish the rip, this is important cause If you bend Mario, you don???t let him make noises.

Well, the track: First steps… Just after the first small planet with the black hole, you fly to an small metal yellow colored planet. Finish all the mushrooms first, and then… You know, there???s a guy asking for a key at the top of the planet, so go at the bottom, far from him, and there use the first person view and try to aim in the best direction here, since you don???t hear noises (black hole, explosions or the guy at the top)
Ask me whenever you want if you have problems to find a good place to rip without sounds

Sebasrd24, can you redo "Bowser’s final reactor"? Some asshead snapped a camera in it.

Ghastly and Battlerock.

And a lot of the galaxies’ intros are skipped. They can be played without sound by dying, and restarting the galaxy– skipping the opening cutscene.

This is true, it’s how I snagged the intros for Honeyhive (original and fast), Battlerock, Toy Time, and Sweet Sweet (my rip it’s called Nostalgia 1). Problem is, this doesn’t work for all levels. It’s only rare cases where the check point happens to be at a good location to grab the intro without sound effects. If anyone finds more than just the ones i’ve listed, feel free to contribute ;).

I’ve continued work so far on the rip, 51 tracks as of now. Theres only a few issues however if I wish to have as many as "sebasrd24". Several of the new tracks have sound effects, i’m sure you’ve heard them.

If these sounds are acceptable then I can certainly include them in the rip. With these new tracks, plus the ones I have yet to rip (according to his list) the total tracks will climb to 66.

In January 2008, a 2-disc Galaxy OST will be released in Japan (one disc has 28 in-game tracks, the other disc has 53 "variations", whatever that means). So, in due time, we WILL have a high-quality soundtrack!

PD: I know bowser???s battle theme It’s like, everyone’s favourite track. It???s one of my favourites too, but, wat can I do? Too much sound effects in that battles

There???s only one new theme in that compilation: The rolling green, and I have to thank him for that theme, it???s so difficult to get it.
Megaleg???s moon is the same than= Bowser Jr.???s robot reactor-1
After the claxon is the same tan= Bowser Jr???s robot reactor-3 (In his version, it sounds a little bit the robot on background, I think it souds higher than in my rip of that theme…)

Silentscience, I have a question. On your file, it’s a ".7z" or something file – what is this, and how do I open it?

I know where to get all but one of them, and that’s the purple coins theme. Someone mentioned being able to get it with no sound effects in space junk galaxy, but I just don’t see it there.. As for the other three do you guys really want those ones? I assume yes for completions sake?

out of curiosity, by Wii-SNES Controller you mean the Classic Controller attachment that’s been out since the Wii’s launch date, right? Or do you mean some limited/non-limited edition, Wii adaption I haven’t heard of that looks more like an SNES controller than the Classic Controller?

Super Mario Galaxy – 104 – Under Attack is probably the music I’m looking for. That may be Dino Pirahna’s boss theme. Anyways its a great rip! I hope to see more soon!

Thanks :). As for that song which is from my rip. I don’t have any boss songs ripped in that version. The song you’re pointing to is the one played when the mushroom kingdom is under attack, or when you’re playing in bowser jr’s airship armada.

Now a thing to note with some of these new songs that are to be ripped. They will most certainly contain other audio such as sound effects in the background. I’ll try to minimize this the best I can.

Now to end this post with a tidbit of information. My rip yesterday alone used 20GB of bandwidth, I wasn’t expecting that much ;). Since my friend happens to be hosting the file for me, i’ll probably be putting up mirrors for the new rip to be on some one-click hosting sites as well. Also i’ve been meaning to purchase additional hosting since my own web space through my isp is to small to host files like these.

Am I missing something, or are all the tracks you labeled as "(NEW)" (all three bowser jr tracks, bonefin galaxy, etc.) missing from the most recent set you uploaded? I got the .7z file with 45 tracks and 135 MB or whatever but everything NEW on that tracklist isn’t there. Not complaining because I really appreciate both your efforts to rip the soundtrack (and within the first week of its release, damn) and it sounds great, just making sure I didnt miss a link, or have you yet to upload it? Thanks again though for the rip.

Can’t seem to find it in that level. Which star specifically, and where? Since I am still unable to find it in space junk galaxy like another person mentioned.

Thoght i’d also give an update on where I am at so far :P. Just finished the mp3 for the Purple Coin theme, has zero sound effects, loops, and has the full intro ;).

The Final Fight however (after the first 2 planets) just has one solid final boss theme, instead of dividing the theme.

.___. er overall I think I’m trying to say…or ask…or whatever, is that 2 themes are inside of the normal Bowser fights. Not just one…

Yeah just about every track has some sort of introduction, and then it gets into a loop. For all my songs I play the looped sequence twice, then it fades out for ten seconds.

Yeah i’ve been thinking about those. Would be one of the tough ones to rip due to how quickly you get them changes the tempo among other things.

I tried to put the tracks in the order you encounter them in the game. The tracks that start with 2** are mainly songs that appear several times throughout the game. Of course my order may not be what everyone would prefer, we could easily change it for the next set of songs.

I think i’ve found a new hobby ;). I used to do some DS rips from time to time of games I liked. Most recent one I did was Rune Factory that was months and months ago. But super mario galaxy was allot of fun to do. Especially the tough songs like purple coins, where I took two separate recordings and did 6 or so edits/cuts to remove the timer sounds. Same thing with ice mario, took two or three different recordings then used them to recreate the intro with no sound effects.

Oh yeah, I have a song to add to the list that i’ve had my eye on. When you encounter bowser jr, he has his own little theme. When you first meet him it’s a rather short intro then goes into a very small loop. However when you battle him and or meet him at bowser’s galaxy reactor, it plays the full song. I think I might be able to grab it without sound effects but i’m not sure. It’s another one of those pain in the butt songs which take allot of editing.

But I have to ask though: isn’t there an actual OST of SMG, not anything ripped?

One more thing: the Bouldergeist/Kingfin boss battle has a total of four variations – two speeds depending on how far into the battle you are, and an extra instrument track for when you approach dealing critical damage to the boss.

Yes there is. Go to the second mission in ghostly galaxy and when you use ice mario to get up to the upper level. Continue walking until you reach the first yellow thing that moves up and down. When you are here instead of heading to the left which will take you in the direction of the yellow thing move to the right and you should see a small area with a pipe. Get to the pipe, go down it, hit the ? coin and boom a brand new note song.

Ghostly Galaxy or Deep Darkness Galaxy?

Obviously Deep Darkness Galaxy. There is no ice flower in the Ghostly Galaxy … Got to check that "new" song out (not sure if I know that one already).

Sorry haven’t been posting much, been kind of busy as of late. I have been doing some recordings when I get the chance though. Last one I did was the manta ray theme, I called it Racing Spirit 😉

Anyway, you won’t achieve anything by doing the glitch, because all you’ll get is the chorus-less version of the song. And you also won’t get the intro of the song, although I suppose you could patch that in afterwards. It would be blasphemy not to include the chorus. Actually, it ought to loop twice; Once without the chorus and once with it.

If you clear the stage of obstacles you could probably record the chorus part without too much sound effects, since Bowser doesn’t make a lot of noise while he runs around with his tail on fire.

A good time to rip it is on the final reactor, after you let him get rid of all coins and stuff like that, spin to make him start spinning and just run around. I could do that but, I have no idea if it will come out nicely, but if I can do it I’ll do both versions.

If you feel the third version to be worth it, then rip it. If not, then don’t. We would all appreciate as complete a rip as possible (or at least before the OST becomes available), but don’t sacrifice anything important for this. After all, there is an OST coming out in a couple of months.

Actually, I am ripping all three parts. When you battle him, when he runs, and when he spins. And then also the part of the last battle you fight with him where the music is different.

The only one that’s bugging me is when he’s not running/spinning. It’s VERY hard to get the music to stay the music.

Until now, ’cause that rip was terrible. The sound effects were louder than any of the music, and the only part that went uninterrupted was about 20 seconds in the middle of the song. Maybe good things do come to those who wait. And to those who don’t, well…

The video is from E3 so the game was still a work in progress at the time of showing. As far as I know, the retail release of the game does not include that theme at all (I haven’t come across it and I have all the stars).

That makes me a sad puppy… 🙁

Dreadnought Galaxy has no separate theme, really. It’s just the Battlerock Galaxy Theme. The song from the rip is actually from Melty Molten Galaxy.

Also, Gateway Galaxy has no theme also. It’s just the "Wake up!" theme and the "First Steps" Theme. The song that has the name is from Snow Cap Galaxy.

Cutscenes are impossible to rip properly, there’s just too many sound effects. For those, wait until the official release. Boss battles are hard to do for the same reason.

I might try out the Bowser glitch this weekend, but I’ve never recorded video game music before, so it would be largely experimental. Plus, I don’t have any real audio editing experience (does anybody know how to use Audacity?). Personally, I like Kuroe-Chan’s promise of all three Bowser versions – that would blow anything I could do out of the water.

In fact, I think there’s plenty of musical cues that will be in the OST that we may have missed.

Check out this interview; it details the process through which Yokota and Kondo created the Galaxy soundtrack. Apparently, they recorded the orchestral music using a set tempo. It would make syncing different streams ala MIDI fairly easy, even if recording was difficult.

Just because the song Dynamically Changes doesn’t make it a MIDI, if anything it sounds like the game simply tracks what time the song is currently at and transition between two versions of the same song depending on what the state the battle is in.

It’s the same technology they would use to make the harp come in on the beat when you shoot from a Launch Star.

I guess that’s how they managed to fit the SFX in with the chords in the music.

Some fun stuff:
-Scrolling over the planets in the file select screen: The unused ones have a low crystal sound (synth I guess) and the used ones have a high one.

-Tarantox battle: Knock the coins off of the big net, and the sound comes in key with the chords.

-Galaxy select screen: Scroll over the galaxies.

I think there are more, but I’d have to check.

It’s just a copy of my rip. I posted a nice comment for the poster of that torrent ;). I had no problem with the torrent, just the fact he made no effort to give proper credit to where he/she got the files, seeing how I spent many hours of my time.

After reading several posts it seems people are still using the old rip from sebasrd24. Seeing how my post is sort of buried somewhere in the topic, i’ll repost it here. Now as for this whole bowser’s battle curfuffle. I’ll be honest, I haven’t really worked on it very much, if at all. I have lots of recordings though. What I was trying to do was do many recordings of when bowser is spinning/on fire which is when the chants play. The song is if I remember correctly well over a minute in length. The main pain in the ass part is bowser only spins or is on fire for a certain length of time (my recordings average around 8 – 12 seconds each, majority of it unusable, so more like 5 or so). So I got to get enough recordings of the chants that I am able to then hopefully piece back together, which is the second pain in the ass. The third problem is due to bowser circling the planet his sound effects travel slightly back and forth across the left and right channels. So even if I do get enough recordings of the chants, with bowser’s sound effects traveling all over the place, it makes it all the more problematic to piece together.

I hope that explains my delays in getting it done. I start working on it again and again, but then I just get so frustrated with it I say f*** it it’s not worth it i’ll just wait for the OST. I do agree though I want a decent copy of it as much as everyone else, it is an epic piece :p. So my apologies for not being so gungho this time around :(.

But seeing how the Platinum OST is allegedly two discs and 81 tracks long it should be on there. I read that the first disc is fully orchestrated, and the second disc is the synth/midi tracks. So even if it isn’t orchestrated it should still be on the Platinum OST.

Yea that’s true and all except, after Mario dies and you start again he’s already on the planet and the song starts from the beginning. I tried removing the sound effects from a video of the Bowser Battle I have on my computer to see if it would be worth attempting to rip it. It seems there is a constant "wind" noise in the background that I cant seem to get rid of but I at least quietened most of the effects. Still not sure if I should bother trying to do it properly without the low battery noise and stuff that were in the video.
