Anybody listen to it? Any thoughts on it? What’s some of your favorite artists?

With Japan, the rap game is composed mainly of acts that are very similar to America’s mainstream style or pop rap. Since America has already got the money, cash, ho’s thing down pat, I mainly stick with the pop rap side of the Japanese urban music scene. Bennie K is my favorite, but Soulhead and Twenty4-7 are pretty good. Ditto for Three Nation. Japan’s underground scene is pretty good as well, but there’s hardly any exposure for them.

I just can’t get into it. It seem that the Japanese an imitating a culture that they aren’t in touch with and comes off as mockery to me. But it can’t really be helped, as this is true of many foreign exported genres of music, and it’s not their fault that they are unaware of culture they didn’t grow up with.

I tend to be a follower of good beats, which lead me to j-hip hop. It was mainly due to m-flo’s earlier albums (if they can even be termed j-hip hop). A majority of the beats I’ve heard have some really nice unique sounds to them, which is something that’s lacking in a majority of the American hip hop of today.

I like artists such as:

DJ Hazime
DJ Kentaro
DJ Mitsu The Beats
Gagle
Grooveman Spot
Kero One
Kick The Can Crew
m-flo
Midicronica
Nujabes
Rhymester
Rip Slyme (even though they have their own brand of weird…)
Seamo
Shing02
Steady & Co
Tsutchie

I’m always open to trying out some more artists, though. Always looking for good music!

heh lotus juice is pretty awesome…but uhh is he an actual rap artist in Japan? I mean…all I know is he did was some songs on the Persona 3 soundtrack.

Home Made Kazoku is pretty good. They did a song with Abingdon Boys School…really enjoy the hell out of it. It’s called LOST REASON. Check it out or something
