An odd question…

Well, I was talking to one of my buddies the other day pre-thanksgiving activities and he was telling me about the new Halo hero-clix things he just bought. I was like yeah, that’s nice and then he spouts off a random thought. He was sayin that Bungie should make a Halo rail-shooter for the arcade. I told him it was an awful idea, but what do ya’ll think?

Could it really be done and it actually be worth anything?

the only thing less interesting than an arcade game at some greasy old man’s pizza place is a fighting game. mix the two together, with another staring at you from a distance (the smarter readers know what im saying here) and you get a big ass bottle of some gray contoction that smells like cheese that i’l label ‘disaster’ for everyone. years later, someone will drink this and make arcade games popular again. disaster.

Oh see, it’s a Star Wars joke but I just read from my other thread that you haven’t seen any of the movies. Well, then I guess you won’t really understand that one.

I sometimes play in arcades but if they are going to make a halo rail-shooter it should come out on home consoles

People still play arcade games?
There are a lot of reasons people still do. Usually it’s the thrill of being able to play a linked game with the people you’re challenging (friends or random strangers) right next to you. Take Initial D for instance. The arcade machines for the game at various malls I visit are almost always occupied with large groups of people standing around, watching various drivers duke it out. It’s one thing to challenge people online, but another when the challenger is right next to you or just 2 machines away on the row. I’ve also seen groups of friends duke it out on 4 linked Daytona machines. The ability to be together physically is a totally different experience from playing online with teamspeak.

Also, certain arcade games are crap and have corners cut when ported to home consoles. Time Crisis for the PSOne looked absolutely awful compared to the Arcade version. And don’t get me started about songs missing from the home version of Dance Dance Revolution 4th Mix that are in the arcade version. And it doesn’t help that the controllers that are bundled with the home version is usually some half-assed job with corners cut to keep the costs down.

That said, I usually play Para Para Paradise, Taiko No Tatsujin and Dance Dance Revolution at the arcades. Mainly because my PS2 is a NTSC U/C model that isn’t modchipped (plus, the Para Para Paradise home kit is awfully rare, ditto for the Taiko no Tatsujin home kit, and the home version lacks the Tottoko Hamutaro/Hamtaro theme, which is arguably the only reason I play the game). Also I don’t like the feel of the DDR mats and prefer the metal dance platform used at arcades.

And oh, coin-operated kiddie pony rides. Just don’t let the arcade attendants catch you riding them (although the policy of these rides vary from arcade to arcade. Some are okay with adults going nuts on them while others chase you off) ;P;P;P

I bought Time Crisis 4 for PS3. Comes with a Guncon for $90. It has a whole FPS style story along with the arcade version to justify it’s price. The Halo rail-shooter, I agree is a terrible idea.

Only if you’re living on res at the uni or if you live near the shibuya arcade.

As for the odd question: I doubt it. They’re already getting away from FPS and onto RTS. They wouldn’t remake a game this recent, and I don’t see microsoft taking on the arcade any time soon.

I have MAME so I don’t have the need for the arcade and a metal dance pad. Halo Rail shooter might be like RE:UC but wid aliens.

::just jealous:: I’ve seen an at-home Para Para kit…it was freaky lookin. The motion sensors were these flower lookin devices that you had to put in certain positions across the room. Hit up the youtube and search velfarre 2000 and one of em should have some random black guy in it. that’s where I saw it.

Why jealous? I don’t have the kits because my PS2 won’t run the games. I didn’t get my PS2 modded (I bought it off eBay, and it took 3 months to get here because the seller somehow shipped it through surface mail. Of course, those machines sold locally are NTSC/J and would run it, but I wanted to play some US exclusive games).
