Game Ripping

My typical protocol for game ripping consists of the following:

A text file containing detailed information about a game, and a track list with total calculated playing time.
Avoidance of ambiguous track titles such as, Level 1, BGM 1, etc. if possible. (If an official track title can be found, then I will designate it as the track’s title.)
ID3 & ID2 Tags, along with Album Art in the .Png format. (Usually the game’s title screen.)
Mp3 files, with VBR and 48000Hz sound quality for tracks.
If I can find front & back box art covers at a decent picture resolution, then I will include them.

Requests and Re-uploads

Please note that if I am accepting or not accepting requests for game rips, it will be indicated underneath the Music Table Link. Likewise with re-uploads, unless an error is discovered. (Expired links will not constitute an error.)

When I’m accepting rip or re-upload requests, I strongly prefer them sent to me via a private message, instead of posted on the thread itself. I’m trying to minimize clutter on my thread as much as possible. Plus, the incentive of doing this shows your vigilance, and therefore increases the odds of your request(s) being successfully fulfilled. Please limit your requests to a reasonable number, however; three at the maximum, preferably.

Additionally, in regards to re-uploading, when I started game ripping, my technique was not as refined as now. In the future when more time is available in my schedule, I may update my past uploads with more meticulous information, and ameliorate music quality if necessary.
Others Hosting My Files

Anyone may host my files. However, I am a firm believer in the adage, "Give credit where credit is due." for it’s tactfulness. I would prefer credit to be presented in the exampled format below because of its simplicity, and ease in differeniating between another person’s game rip compared to mine.

Example: File Name – (Mario Kinnikuman’s Rip)

The Music Table

I’ve opted for the use of a HTML table to organize my uploads to facilitate accessibility, instead of obfuscating the main page of this thread by stretching it superfluously. The table is sorted in alphabetical order by default, but can also sort the list according to other available field headers, except Download Links.

The Music Table’s Internet Browser Compatibilities

The music table’s internet browser compatibilities, rated from best to worse.

Best: Firefox (Flawless.) Earthlink (Flawless, so far) Realplayer (Flawless, so far.)

Good: Internet Explorer (Internet Explorer 7 seems flawless, but the table may appear to lag, or sort table columns by their headers incorrectly in previous versions.)

More to come…

Anyway, without further ado, the highlight of this thread.

The Music Table (http://mariokinnikuman.webs.com)
(Mario Kinnikuman is currently: not accepting requests, and not accepting re-uploads.)

great to see you back at it <3

a question though, why 320kbps instead of -v 0?

If you’re referring to VBR, I choose to ensure maximum quality for MP3s as possible with a constant bitrate.

-v 0 will be the same quality as 320kbps but with a smaller filesize, though

not all parts of the music need 320kbps to be represented fully; the best way to illustrate this is if there’s either incredibly simple music [think older game music] or actual silence in the song.

up to your preferences I guess but I’d look into it !

Interesting. I’ll investigate this opportunity furthermore.

Novel idea for presenting your work, Mario K. If I can ever access my backup server where all of my 500+ soundtracks are stored, I hope you don’t mind that I emulate your table layout.

Not at all. I deliberately chose a table instead of listing soundtracks on the main page, considering how populated it becomes over time. A table also allows me to facilely elucidate details of a file’s content in an organized, convenient presentation. Additionally, coupled with Javascript, it allows others to search for files via their own criteria, too.

About that, it seems as though you incorrectly coded your sorting options. For instance, clicking on "Platform" lists the games in alphabetical order instead of the platforms. The same goes for every sorting option. This in invariably a JS problem that can only be fixed in your sorttable.js file. But also of note is that your table class is declared "sortable" instead of "sorttable." This might have been intentional, but I always aim for consistency when it comes to file names. Just some constructive criticism, I hope you don’t take it offensively.

Thank you, and I am aware of the sorting error. What browser did you view my table in, apropos? Heretofore, I’ve noticed that in earlier versions of Internet Explorer, for example, Internet Explorer 5, the headers may sort incorrectly. The latest versions of Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox 3 appear to display the table flawlessly, and therefore I recommend updating to the latest versions your browser to resolve the error. Pertaining to the correction of the Javascript code itself, unfortunately, my knowledge in Javascript isn’t that intricate. There are several variations of a sortable table afloat on the internet. I chose this version (http://www.kryogenix.org/code/browser/sorttable/), since it appeared the least convoluted to encode, modify and maintain. The author of this javascript program is more than willing to hear any problems that arise, and if you ever learn of another javascript table sorter program that surpasses the one I currently use in overall reliability, I’d like to try it!
