ok now that we know there is going to be a DBZ movie

what comic or manga would you like to see made into a movie?

For some reason, I’m having trouble thinking of a popular manga that would work well as a live-action film. US/UK comics seem to fare better. Although even there, some classics are better left alone (Sandman, Watchmen).

The transition doesn’t always mean an awful result – the first couple of Lone Wolf and Cub films were good. For the prosecution: Gary Daniels in Fist of the North Star.

Confession: I quite liked the live-action adaptation of Crying Freeman, though…

I love DBZ, but it is effectively just one long fight with power-ups standing-in for character development. That’s a feature of many shonen manga of course, but Naruto – for example – retains the fighting/training focus yet allows its characters to change and grow in a believable way.

Maybe Kenshin could work as a straight historical action flick.
Kaze Hikaru is a natural historical romance.
Music films seem popular now: Nodama Cantabile.
Planetes for an involving and philosophical Sci-fi.
Or Love Hina re-done as a teen sex-comedy?

Romantic comedies like Ai Yori or Hana Kimi would presumably be the easiest (and cheapest) to film.

Having now actually had to power my brain up, I wouldn’t be amazed to find that Hollywood has optioned Full Metal Alchemist: huge fan base, European characters, dark and complex plotting etc.

Ninja Scroll (獣兵衛忍風帖, Jūbei Ninpūchō?) is a Japanese action thriller anime, set in feudal Japan,

this would be great to see as a movie

It could definitely work as a movie. A sexy, violent movie.

Also: another "I’m surprised Hollywood hasn’t nicked it yet": Ghost In The Shell.

Anime/Manga:
Vampire Hunter D
Blade of the Immortal
Gunsmith Cats
Patlabor

Comics:
Sandman
Death
The Preacher

WB bought the rights, and Tobey Maguire will produce a live action movie of Robotech (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3i1f2de64a1d24bd5585bf89b0691d2011)!!!

Ennis has been in talks with HBO about a Preacher TV series. Don’t know if that’s the same Preacher you were talking about, Vastalis.

Wasn’t there talk about a movie of Death: High Cost of Living a while back?

I used to think Sandman was unfilmable, but now… The A Doll’s House arc would probably be easiest.

Golden Age Sandman would be fun.

Yeah, so far it’s going through, also they’re thinking about making new stories after the Mini-series is done.

Sandman is still in Limbo and might never become a movie.

Death is being made, I think they’re casting.

and Books of Magic has gotten the okay by WB – or last I heard. I’m gonna hate hearing all the comparrisons to Harry Potter.

Well I know there was a live action movie of Casshern done a few years back that was pretty decent from what I heard. Along those lines in a sense I would like to see a Rockman/Megaman movie if it was done right. I would settle for an Astroboy movie as well.

I still regard Sandman as unfilmable. Atleast, it could be done but I think it would fail.
I heard there’s a movie adaption of The Watchmen by Alan Moore coming. Apparantly Zack Snyder, the guy who did the 300 movie, is making it. Could be cool.

I’ve been waiting for it since I heard it was being made.

True, except Van Helsing didn’t have a talking hand, and wasn’t the son of Dracula

Yep!

Please, please, please, please, please don’t fuck it up. And cast me as Rorschach.

Van Helsing

Ooh, how about plain old Hellsing?
