I just have to get this off my chest….

Even before I got into anime I was always aware of Akira. I imagine for many other people it’s a gateway into the bigger world of anime/manga thanks to it’s huge popularity worldwide. As of late I’ve been doing my best to introduce myself to the world of anime. Granted I haven’t been watching much anime but at this point Akira is still unsurpassed in many ways for me. And being the block head that I am I never knew Akira was adapted from an original manga.

Anyway, I’m currently just finished volume 4 of 6 and my mind has just been blown. It’s been such a long time since I’ve invested so much thought and time into a manga/comic. Not since reading "Watchmen" has something like this had such a profound impact on how I view manga/comics. It adds so much more substance and history to the world and characters and makes the anime look superficial in comparison.

Seeing as I’m enjoying it so much I’ll invest into getting the last two volumes rather than viewing them in .jpeg format. But as of now I’m hooked. What a staggering example of art it really is.

phew

It’s always a good feeling when you can enjoy both the anime and the manga. Especially if you’re not a frequent manga reader like me. So far the only one I ever started buying was Welcome to the NHK!. Definitely worth it IMO.

But anyway I never read any of the Akira mangas, but did love the anime. Kinda feel like watching it again now.
