[Gamerip]Kingdom Hearts 2: Final Mix+ – re: Chain of Memories

I know, I know, odd request, especially since the music has been released on an OST for months now, but hear me out. There is one song in the game, called "Lord of the Castle", that is my absolute favorite (Disk 8, Track 21 in the Kingdom Hearts Complete OST collection). However, I was watching a movie on youtube today of the Marluxia fight from the actual game, and the song itself sounds different in parts:

I actually really like the changes in the song, and was wondering if anyone either HAS a rip of the game that may have been made before the official soundtrack was released, or actually has a copy of the game (somehow) and is able to rip that one song from the game itself?

For over a month? Yeah, the OST has definitely been released for over a month. It’s been 5 months already, and it was released before the game. Well, I own Re:Chain of Memories, but I don’t know much about ripping music. What I do know usually involves me extracting stuff from a big file on the disc, but when I insert the disc the largest file it will read is only 1.5 MB. So unless I actually know how to rip the music, I can’t help you.

So apparently the process of ripping music from ps2 disks is a difficult one, but there is an easier solution:

1. Connect the Audio Out from the PS2 to the PC line IN (or similar)
2. Play the song with the PS2 (ingame or whatever)
3. Record it with PC.

Is your computer close to the PS2? If so, you can just play to the boss fight and record it, will take about 4 minutes or so 🙂

I guess that could work… My PS2 has composite cables, and I happen to have a composite to stereo jack converter which I use to play PC audio on my surround sound set. Sooo… then I just plug it in the mic-in and it should work, right? I’ll get on it… or not. I’m not sure anymore if I still have my boss save. And the boss itself will of course interfere with the music. I’m not sure if the music continues playing if I pause the game. Oh well, we’ll see, I’ll keep you posted.

EDIT: Well, I’ve tried it, and it works. The music also keeps playing if the game is paused. BUT, it records at a very low volume and if I increase it it just becomes very bad sounding. I’m using random software that only allows you to go up to 96kbps on the free version, but still… So I need to find some software that can properly record this.

There are two volumes you can mess with when you’re recording via the line in. If you’re recording using your mic jack, you can change your mic volume in the sound panel upwards to try to increase the sound. If not, you can try to tinker with the "what you hear" option to see if that helps. You can also turn up the sound on your speakers to compensate for the lower volume of the music while the game is paused.

For recording programs, I personally use "Advanced MP3 WMA Recorder" to record sound, and it works perfectly. I don’t know if posting "files" on this forum is allowed, though.

One more thing: I REALLY appreciate the time you’re putting in for this. It means a ton!

I picked mic because I wasn’t sure what the line in was. It’s the blue one, I think? Well, here’s the thing. One day I was screwing around with my dual screens while I had the volume window open, and it disappeared. Every time when I open the window it’s off-screen. I just left it like that since I didn’t know how to get it back and never really needed it. So unless this software gives me complete control over the system settings (as opposed to using the current system volume as the max volume), I might not get the max volume possible.

I was recording using an extension cable. When I make the final recording I’ll get rid of that of course, but it requires some moving stuff around. Not that big a deal, but enough to want to be absolutely sure it’s worth it before I do so. So are you absolutely sure it’s a different version of the track? Because it’s kinda hard to tell for me with all the sound effects going on.

I just listened to both tracks just to make sure, they’re definitely different. The differences is subtle, but I think the version ingame sounds better than the version on the soundtrack.

I also found a free audio program that you can use to both record and save audio to your harddrive, while also giving you control over various volumes. Perhaps you’ll find it useful:

I think the quality is OK. I put the gain slide bar in Audacity on 4 (or -4) or something. I had it on max first but that completely destroyed it. I think it’s low enough now. Tell me me if it’s OK. And if it is, you may edit it and upload the MP3 here. 😛

First off, Soul, you completely rock. The time you put forth to try to help a random person on this forum get a hold of a rare song and the distance you’ve gone to aid me, totally above and beyond. Eternally grateful!

The sample you provided to me is great, almost the quality of an ost release! There is a slight crackle on it (I don’t know if you can hear it) that is probably the result of the increased gain you applied to it during recording. If you could re-record it with slightly less gain and see if that eliminates the crackle, that would be awesome. If not, that’s fine too, i’ll be completely content with the sample you already provided and am happy as hell right now as it is 🙂

Actually, I put the slide bar on 0.4 out of 1.0 before I started recording. When it got messed up first I just recorded again. So how much gain do you recommend? And how long should the song be? I don’t think you actually need 15 minutes 😛

Edit: There seems to have been a misunderstanding on my part. I thought you had the original CD to Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories. Sorry about that. 🙁

Cyber, I already have the 9-CD set. AWESOME stuff. However, the song in question sounds different when you compare the song on the set to the song actually ingame 🙂 Play the song "Lord of the Castle" from the set, then go to the link I posted earlier and listen for the differences.

Soul – Oh, then maybe try .03 or .02? It’s been a while since i’ve recorded anything, so I may be wrong. Just try to tinker with it a bit and see when you reach the point where the static dissapears. Yeah, no need for 15 minutes, hehe. Like 5 or 6 minutes would be perfect 🙂
