Eternal NADIA Series

In celebration of the upcoming rerelease of this early Gainax classic from the 1980s (sans its notoriously abysmal second half that takes place mostly on an island and in a badly stereotyped tribal village–although the final five episodes are good), I have decided to upload the CDs to Nadia that I own. These were pressed in 2001, around the same time ADV was bringing the show to the U.S. via DVD. Entitled "Eternal Nadia Series", this trilogy of 2-CD sets contains music from and inspired by Nadia. I will explain what each is:

These CDs contain every single note that composer Shiro Sagisu wrote for Nadia. There are also alternate takes of various tracks, fast or slower paced versions, and some which never made it into the actual show itself. For detailed reviews about them, here are my reviews at Soundtrack Central:

This two-disc set features the opening and ending themes in their full form, plus the vocal tracks from the silly and pointless music video episode, as well as other "inspired by" tracks that appeared on the individual soundtrack releases. There are also the vocal tracks from the infamous, ill-fated theatrical version of Nadia, as well as many other character track songs. This gives the album a semi-Disney esque/cartoonish quality, with some tracks, notably Marie’s disturbingly blasty and shrill ripoff of the OP from My Neighbor Totoro that opens Disc 2, that are guaranteed to give you a splitting headache. Still, for Nadia completists, it’s here.

Speaking of Nadia, I once did a radio broadcast of the show while at college, providing narration to guide listeners from scene to scene. However, I did make one radical change to the story–the island/Africa episode arc from 23-34. I had always felt, just as many fans have, that this filler batch detracted from the show as a whole. So I decided to construct an "alternate" route of the story, squeezing it into three episodes.

IOW, the flow of the "island filler" episodes goes like this in the broadcast:

Episode 23 — starts out with the Captain’s cabin adrift, but then Jean, Nadia, and Marie end up on the FLOATING island, not Lincoln Island, where they meet Ayerton, reuinte with Grandis and her boys, stay for four months, and finally, Jean and Nadia venture into that underground factory where she disappears.

Episode 24 — Actually, this is episode 31, "Farewell, Red Noah," unchanged, because this was the only one that really moved anything along.

Episode 25 — Begins with the Garfish chase from ep. 32, but then segues into the music video episode. The pointless adventure in the African tribal village and with Grandis’s ex-fiancee never happens.

At this point, the story goes to episodes 35-39, and plays out accordingly.

Wow thanx. Nadia was my first Love since i had seen the series 1996 on RTL2(a german television station). I think also it is the best anime ever(sorry EVANGELION YOU are only a good 2nd) I like the humor, the drama and the action and of course the story. i just can recommand to watch nadia.
