i’m not even looking for a complete soundtrack (not that the game had much of one to begin with). i’m just looking for the opening cinematic song. god i love that beast!

a youtube entry can be found here

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kr3Mp11VTRo

turns out it was also included as a downloadable bonus track for Samba De Amigo from seganet, if it matters

Its called "Can you become a rent a hero for mankinds sake" and was also featured on the "Fighters Megamix" game. Its available from the Galbadia Hotel on the album "Sega Saturn History – Last Volume" track number 109. http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/173

I also believe there’s an instrumental version on the US/UK versions of the "Fighters Megamix" game.

After looking at the list of other downloadable songs for Samba De Amigo at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samba_de_amigo
It just looks like Sega got a bunch of their old songs and added them to the game. So it looks like your right and its just the same version of the song.
