Problem Saving : I have a PS2 and a PS card; what’s wrong?

So I went and bought FF8 just a few hours back. Problem is, I have a PS2. So I went and got a PS memory card because I read somewhere that I need one to save. But it’s still not saving – it reads ‘NO MEMORY CARD’.

Help would be greatly appriciated. : )

I believe you must format new cards. Try booting the PS2 without any discs in the tray and try to get it to access the memory card. If it asks you if you want to format the card, say yes.

If that still doesn’t work, chances are the card has a dead battery. Get the card back to the store you bought it from and ask for an exchange.

(Dead batteries are an ass. I lost my Legend of Mana NewGame+ save and my Dance Dance Revolution records due to the battery in my PSOne card dying).

You can transfer files from your PSX cards to PS2 cards. I don’t know if you can boot them from there, though. I have copies of all my PS saves on a backup card. But would they do me any good besides feeding all of them into a PS3? hmm.

I’m going to transfer this to general gaming, because it isn’t really about FFVIII. It’s a hardware problem.

Also, this may be way too simple — but are you certain you’re attempting to save to the correct slot?

There shouldn’t be any problem saving your FF8 game to a PSX memory card, no matter what system your using. If the system can’t read the memory card, then there A) something wrong with the memory card slot or B) something wrong with the memory card. If you have another Playstation unit lying around, try using the memory card on one of those to see if it’s the memory card or not.

I was thinking the same thing as Agent but, IDK that’s just too simple, make sure you have the PS memory card in the first slot, most people go "X" crazy and just repeatedly mash it when saving. other than that, Your mem card is probably defective

I thought PSOne cards have, at least what one of my friends told me back when I was in secondary school. Unless only cheap imitation cards have batteries in them, in which then that makes me an owner of one.

One more thing to check – make sure the card is inserted fully into the slot. If the card doesn’t show up on the PS2 Browse screen and you didn’t get any prompt to format the card, try to gently push the card in further and try jiggling it a bit. Also, I echo Agent’s advice to try moving the card to a different slot and see if it works.

format idea sounds logical. but i’m the lucky ones (i guess) that never had to do that because i recently purchased a psx game, put it in my ps2, and pulled out one of my old psx mem cards and saved like nothing.

no problems whatsoever in the slightest. no format. no wierd thingy. it was as if i was playing a good ol psx to begin with. :p

that, along with everything else that’s been said, should be a good indicator that you got a crap card most likely.

i would try out the other suggestion of using that card on another ps, (like a psx) or another ps2 if possible, in order to confirm this.

Maybe your memory card doesn’t works ?
Or your PS2 can’t access to the PSone’s cards ?
