I’m trying to contribute and signed up for MU but cannot figure out how to get music from a cd to where it needs to be so I can hit browse and have it appear on there. If someone could walk me through this process I have some stuff maybe someone would want.

Well, first you’ll need to rip the tracks from the cd (I use iTunes, but use whatever program you like). If you’ve got enough hard drive space and a decent internet connection (or if you don’t mind waiting a long time to upload), a lot of people like the better quality 320kbps mp3 files. Plop them all in a folder and compress into .zip or .rar format (again, depending on the program you’ve got). Then you can hit browse to select the file and upload it. Hope that’s clear enough, but PM me if you still need help.

I think the "plop them in a folder" could be clearer:) Not sure to get them from iTunes into a folder…

First off, MegaUpload stinks! MediaFire (http://www.mediafire.com/) is much better, I can show you how to use that if you want. 🙂 As for I-Tunes, isn’t there a limit to how many computers a song can be on? I remember a similar complication occurred on this forum. If this is not the case then you’ll need to find the files on your computer, the directory you saved them in, and use WinRar (http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm) to achieve the files.

So do you have BUY something to get songs onto FF Shrine? I think I uploaded something and all is well but it’s asking me to buy a "hotlink"? Is this necessary? If not how do I get the link onto FF Shrine?

I"ll agree I wasn’t super clear earlier – that’s what I get for being tired, I guess – so thanks for jumping in. If MediaFire works better for you – that’s great. Everybody’s got their preference. I just tried to answer the question, not plug my favorite service (not sure if I have a favorite, though).

As for iTunes, I was trying to give an example; the limit with songs is if you buy them from iTunes. It doesn’t apply to songs you rip from a disc.

And I’d be interested to know how you achieve files with WinRar; I usually archive them. 🙂

install winrar, then right click on files or folders and there will be an item saying add to archive… there you can choose preferences. and hit ok!

Just a suggestion, but maybe you could try Exact Audio Copy (http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/en/index.php/resources/download/) for ripping CDs instead. One of the benefits is that you can encode audio to any format (LAME, FLAC, WMAL, AAC, MP3, ect). Then again I’ve never used Itunes for ripping CDs.
